Former India pacer and chairman of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) senior selection committee, Amit Bhandari, was assaulted by unidentified men on Monday during Delhi’s U-23 trials at the St. Stephen’s Ground.
Bhandari sustained injuries on his head and leg and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared out of danger. Although the attackers had fled the scene before the police could reach, the leader – Anuj Dedha, an U-23 cricketer who was not selected for Delhi’s senior team – was later identified and arrested.
DDCA President Rajat Sharma told PTI, “I have personally spoken to
the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik. The guilty will not go unpunished. We will register an FIR.”
