Nantes have retired the No. 9 jersey following the confirmation of their former striker Emiliano Sala’s death.
Nantes had sold the striker to the Premier League side Cardiff City for
£15 million, a record fee for Cardiff City. The 18-year-old was declared dead on Friday after the recovery and examination of his body.
The Ligue 1 side Nantes turned their official website to an image of Emiliano Sala with the words, ‘Noue ne t’oublierons jamais, Emi!’ which translates as “We will never forget you, Emi!”
Nantes President Waldemar Kita stated, “I’m devastated, Emiliano left his mark, which is why, like many fans, I want to honour him again by removing the number nine.”
