Often labelled as the giants of Hero I League football, Mohun Bagan made waves in Indian football latest news when they signed the 32-year-old Egyptian playmaker, Omar Elhusseiny, who also happens to have a decent bit of experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League. Making headlines in Indian football news, ‘The Mariners’ announced the arrival of Omar Elhusseiny on Tuesday, as their fifth foreign signing for the upcoming I League 2018-19 season.
Indian football latest news: Mohun Bagan await the completion of formalities before signing the attacking midfielder
The official statement released by the Kolkata-based I League football giants was reported in Indian football latest news by Goal. The statement which can end up paying huge dividends for Mohun Bagan in the upcoming I League 2018-19 season, read, “We are pleased to announce that we have selected Mr. Omar Nabil Rashad Elhussieny an attacking midfield player from Egypt after consultation with Head Coach Mr. Shankarlal Chakraborty as the fifth foreigner.”
The club also reported that the signing of Omar Elhusseiny would be completed after the successful completion of his fitness tests and other formalities. The statement which is making rounds in Indian football news, read, “The player will come to Kolkata and shall undergo a complete medical and physical fitness test. During this time the Head Coach will observe him and after a successful conclusion of the tests, we will sign him.”
“He has applied for his visa today and is suppose to receive the same by Thursday, October 11, 2018. The player is most likely to come to Kolkata by Saturday, October 13, 2018.”
The 32-year-old, who has gained extensive experience from playing football in the European circles, joins Mohun Bagan for the upcoming season of Hero I League football from the Maltese First Division club, Żejtun Corinthians, for whom he registered two goals and four assists last season.
And while Omar Elhusseiny has played extensive football in Europe and it’s outskirts, he is not an absolute newcomer to Asian football as well. The 32-year-old has also played for Persela Lamongan in the Indonesia Super League during the 2015-16 season, where he gave a prolific performance by scoring nine goals and registering 14 assists, and that too, in just 19 appearances.
Hero I League 2018-19 season, which is the twelfth edition of the top tier of India football, kicks off on 26 October, 2018, with Mohun Bagan opening their campaign the next day away against Gokulam Kerala FC.
