Making waves in Indian football latest news, it was reported that the All India Football Association’s (AIFF) developmental side, Indian Arrows FC, will not be playing their home games from Delhi in the upcoming I League 2018-19 season. Instead of the national capital, Indian Arrows will now be based out of Bhubaneswar in Odisha, it has been confirmed in Indian football news by Goal.
While the Indian Arrows were last seen competing against the Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Mumbai City FC in a 2-1 defeat in the 2018 Super Cup, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the latest Indian football news reports that the venue is set to become the football team’s permanent one, at least for the upcoming Hero I League 2018 season.
Indian football latest news: There seems to be an agreement between the AIFF and Odisha government
As reported in Indian football latest news by Goal, Indian Arrows head coach Floyd Pinto revealed, “We will be shifting to Bhubaneshwar so we will be based in Odisha. We will be playing our home matches at the Kalinga stadium. I think there is an agreement in place between the AIFF (All India Football Federation) and the Odisha government who are keen to get involved with the AIFF youth teams.”
The tentative schedule for the upcoming season of Hero I league football was recently made public, and it was reported in Indian football news that the Indian Arrows are slated to open their I League 2018-19 campaign against Chennai City FC on October 26, after which they will play their first home game of the season, on November 5, against Shillong Lajong.
However, there seems to be a niggle that will present itself as an obstacle for Indian Arrows to play their home games from Bhubaneswar undisturbed, as from 28 November to 16 December, the Kalinga Stadium will be hosting the the Hockey World Cup 2018, and during that time, the Arrows will be shifted to the Barabati stadium in Cuttack for their home games.
Currently, the Indian Super League has gone into a mid-season break, and as reported in Indian football news or Indian football latest news, ISL outfit FC Pune City have requested the Indian Arrows for another friendly match before the I-League team shifts to their new base. The Arrows who are playing in the upcoming edition of Hero I league football, are expected to move to Bhubaneswar on Saturday (October 13).
Confirming the news about the friendly with FC Pune City, Floyd Pinto said, “We play FC Pune City on the coming Saturday (October 13). Then we come back and head to Bhubaneswar. We played against them (Pune) here. So they were happy with that and wanted to play another game during the (international) break. It’s one more game for us also before the I-League.”
