What is of special importance and what could absolutely rock up the Indian football circles, is the fact that should the ‘Blue colts’ emerge victorious in their next AFC U-16 Championship 2018 clash against Korea Republic, it would result to their qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time in Indian football history. It would also be Indian football’s first-ever entry to the FIFA mega-event across all age groups. Truly historic.
Discussing about the prospects for the U-16 Indian football team, head coach Bibiano Fernandes spoke to Xtratime in an exclusive interview, and expressed optimism about the fact that his boys were on the verge of rewriting Indian football history.
As reported in latest Indian football news, Bibiano Fernandes spoke about how he felt when the U16 Indian football team held Indonesia to a goalless draw till the final whistle, qualifying for the AFC U16 Championship 2018 Quarter-Final for the first time in 16 years. Indian football latest news: Boys are hungry and ready for any challenge, says Bibiano Fernandes
While the ‘Blue Colts’ have performed beyond par till now in the AFC U16 Championship 2018, their next mission is to topple Korea republic, a team which is considered as heavy-weights when it comes to Asian football. Speaking about the prospects of defeating Korea, which would equate to Indian football’s first-ever qualification for FIFA World Cup (U17), Fernandes said, as reported in Indian football latest news,
“One thing I will tell you, my boys are hungry, they are hungry for more. The opposition will have tough time against my boys. They are ready for any challenge… In the last one and a half year, we have played against tougher teams like Norway and Valencia. The results too have been very encouraging for us. We don’t fear any team and up for any challenge.”
There is another important aspect to discuss, however, and it is the way that the U-16 Indian football team has performed in the ongoing AFC U-16 Championship 2018. It is clearly noticeable that with the dominance that the ‘colts’ have performed, it had been missing in the Indian football circles for a long time. When asked about what ‘magic’ had Bibiano done to the U-16 team, he replied,
“You know me, I don’t believe in magic. I believe in hard work and determination. This is really special because we have qualified after 16 years. It’s not just me. I would like to thank my staff, people who are back home in the administration who are working tirelessly and doing the job well.”
Speaking about the chances of this team to beat Korea Republic in the AFC U16 Championship 2018 and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time in history across all age-groups, Bibiano said, “Well, one more game and they can write new history in Indian football. But for my boys it’s another 90 minutes for the nation, another 90 mins to give our best, another 90 mins to play our heart out and another 90 minutes to make our nation proud. By God’s grace, we will do it, we will.”
