Churchill Brothers, the team which plays in the top-tier of India football, i.e. I-League, is set to show the exit door to their Brazilian duo – Romualdo dos Santos and Matheus – after the footballers failed to impress the head coach Peter Gigiu in the preseason tours of I-League 2018-19. The development is making waves in Indian football latest news, as the footballing duo had a lot of hopes stored in them when they were roped in by the I-League outfit.
Indian football latest news: The Brazilian duo could not manage to impress Peter Gigiu ahead of ISL 2018-19 season
Churchill Brothers have been going through a lot lately, especially after they were relegated to the 2nd division of the I-League after a dismal performance last season. It was being reported in Indian football news that the club had requested the All India Football Federation (AIFF), that they wanted to be retained in the top-tier of India football, being the sole representatives in India football from the Goan region.
While that is a separate issue, another development that has stirred up the Indian football latest news is the fact that the head coach of Churchill Brothers, Peter Gigiu, feels that the Brazilian duo – Santos and Matheus – surely lack pace and would not be adding quality to the existing squad of the I-League team.
Both of the footballers had also remained sidelined during Churchill Brothers’ recent friendly against Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Pune City, where the Brothers had lost 2-1 after an excellent brace from Pune City’s Emiliano Alfaro.
As reported in Indian football latest news by Goal, Churchill Brothers who are also known as the Red Machines, have retained their forward Cisse Gwada, Lebanese defender Eldor Hussain, and former East Bengal striker Willis Plaza from the previous I-League season.
The I-League outfit which hangs in uncertainty whether they’ll play in the 1st or 2nd division of I-League 2018-19 season, have also brought in the Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho to add some mettle at the centre of their formation.
Coming to the issue which revolves around their relegation/retention in the top-tier of India football, it is safe to say that All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) league committee has paid heed to Churchill’s plea, and are considering to allow their entry into the I-League 1st division this year, despite of the club finishing ninth last season.
It has also been reported in latest Indian football news, that the AIFF committee has forwarded the matter to an emergency committee after due consideration, and now it will be up to the emergency committee to look into the matter on a later date.
The owner of the family-run club Churchill Brothers, Alemao Churchill, had requested AIFF to reconsider their relegation as relegating the only representative from Goa in the I-League might not affect India football on a great scale, but would most certainly prove detrimental to Goan football.
