Indian national team’s first choice goalkeeper and ISL team Bengaluru FC’s shot-stopper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, spoke about the current trends in youth India football and specially the Under-16 football team and praising them, made waves in Indian football latest news. He said that the opportunities that the current crop of U-16 Indian football players are getting, have got them on a level that is way more superior than where the present senior players were at that age.
It is being reported in Indian football news currently, that the U-16 Indian football players are preparing for the upcoming AFC Championship in Malaysia, where they will play against teams such as Iran, Vietnam and Indonesia in the group stage. 26-year-old Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who plays as the first choice shot-stopper for both, the Indian national football team and the Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Bengaluru FC, made waves in football news India or Indian football latest news when he showered praises on the U-16 Indian football players.
Indian football latest news: U-16 Indian football players will kick off their AFC Championship campaign from September 20 in Kuala Lumpur
In preparation for the AFC Championship which will kick off from September 20, 2018, in Kuala Lumpur, the young Indian colts have already played 20 international friendlies against various U-16 national teams since the start of this year. As reported in football news India, they are being coached by the former player of India football Bibiano Fernandes, under who India U-15 had won the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) championship in 2017.
Speaking about the pace with which the U-16 Indian football players are growing and the exposure trips that they are undertaking, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu said, as reported in Indian football latest news by News Jox,
“It’s a very positive development. If we would have that much exposure what they have been receiving at the moment, who knows things would have been much different. They are very lucky and need to make the most of it.”
“But overall, I’m very happy that they are getting such opportunities and that youth football is being taken so seriously. After all, they are our future.”
When Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was asked about what his message would be for the U-16 Indian football players who will be taking on the AFC Championship with full force, the shot-stopper said in Indian football news,
“I would like them to be humble and stay united as a team. When you go in as a team, you can do things which no one can ever imagine. I hope they win these games and make us proud. Good luck boys.”
Apart from wishing the U-16 India football team, Gurpreet also praised the clots and said that the quality of their game is clearly much better that what used to be the story of India football a couple of years ago. As reported in football news India, he said,
“I have watched some of the highlights of their games. It is clear that quality wise, these boys are much better than what we used to be at that age. It makes me feel very proud. Things are changing and I am pretty positive.”
