Asia Cup Cricket Winners List, Asia Cup Winners List, Asia Cup Champion List
The tournament which involves six cricketing nations of the Asian region, was founded after the Asian Cricket Council was founded in 1983, as a measure to promote goodwill and sporting relations between Asian countries. Originally, the Asia Cup was planned to be held every two years. In this article, we will look at the Asia Cup cricket winners list, which will feature all the teams who have won the tournament so far. As India are the reigning champions of the Asia Cup, it is certain that they are going to feature the most in the Asia Cup winners list or Asia Cup champion list. Let’s delve into the details.
The Asia Cup 2018 edition is going to start from September 15 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and will wrap up with the final clash between the ultimate two teams on September 28. This will be the 14th edition of the tournament, which is organised under the aegis of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and is being contested between six teams, namely; India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The Asia Cup is a men’s One Day International (ODI) and T20I cricket tournament, which had originally started as an ODI tournament, but was soon started in the T20I format as well, alternatively. This is an important point that we need to keep note of, while discussing the Asia Cup winners list or Asia Cup champion list.

The first-ever edition of the Asia cup was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the tournament was soon made the tool through which the Asian countries expressed protest, which was more often than not political in nature. For example, the 1986 Asia Cup, 1990–91 edition and 1993 edition were cancelled due to strained political relations between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which had come at different time-periods and due to different reasons.
While discussing the Asia Cup cricket winners list, it is worthy to note that the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in 2015 that Asia Cup events from 2016 would be played on a rotation basis, between ODI and T20I format, on the basis of the upcoming World Cup event formats. As a result, the 2016 Asia Cup was the first event which was played in the T20I format, acting as a preparatory tournament for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.
