- Mumbai City FC made waves in Indian football latest news when they signed the last lot of players to complete their foreign player quota for ISL 2018-19 season
- It was revealed in ISL transfer news and Indian football news that Mumbai City signed Senegalese winger Modou Sougou and Congolese right-back Arnold Issoko
Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Mumbai City FC had finished at the 7th position in the table rankings of the last season of ISL football, something that can’t be labelled as their worst performance, considering the number of teams were increased from 8 to 10 in that year. However, the Ranbir Kapoor-owned ISL team have a long way to go, and are making waves in ISL transfer news and Indian football news simultaneously, as they completed their foreign player quota for the ISL 2018-19 season after signing Modou Sougou and Arnold Issoko.
As reported in Indian football latest news, the Senegalese winger Modou Sougou and Arnold Issoko completed Mumbai City’s foreign quota of seven players, something that each of the ISL team is allowed every season. And making waves in ISL transfer news, Mumbai City completed theirs with just a month remaining to ISL 2018-19 season kickoff.
Indian football latest news: Modou Sougou joins Mumbai City for ISL 2018-19 after mostly spending his football career in Portugal
Modou Sougou, who has mostly spent his footballing career in Portugal as a right-winger, was last playing for a Portuguese football club called Moreirense. However, he was transferred to Moreirense on loan from the English football club, Sheffield Wednesday. The 33-year-old has even featured for Ligue 1 outfits Marseille and Evian, but has not been able to make a major impact for these top clubs.
Sogou, however, has earned vast experience after also having been capped 12 times by the Senegal national football team, and is expected to make waves in Indian football news owing to his skills. The winger will certainly impart some technical expertise to the Indian football players present in Mumbai City, apart from adding good pace to the ISL team’s attacks in the upcoming ISL 2018-19 season.
As reported by Business Standard in Indian football latest news, Mumbai City FC coach, Jorge Costa, who took over the ISL team after the end of last season of ISL football, spoke about acquiring the Senegalese winger Modou, and said,
“He has shown his quality in the best leagues in the world and he has the speed and talent our team needs. He has joined us on our pre-season training and we are sure that he will be one of the key cogs in the Mumbai City FC wheel in the upcoming season.”
On the other hand, another player who made waves in Indian football latest news and ISL transfer news after joining Mumbai City FC, i.e. Arnold Issoko, comes straight to the Islanders from Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Setubal. Interestingly, Modou Sougou had also turned out for Vitoria de Setubal. The 26-year-old Issoko is also quite an experienced footballer, however, not as much as is Senegalese counterpart. Issoko has been capped by the Democratic Republic of Congo once, and can be deployed both, as a right-back or as a winger.
Both Issoko and Sougou have good knowledge of the Portuguese style of football and the language. What is certain to land Mumbai City FC higher up in the table standings in the ISL 2018-19 season is the presence of an excellent Portuguese coach, Jorge Costa, at Mumbai City’s helm of affairs.
