The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is mulling to cut down the number of matches for the 2018-19 I-League season that would be broadcasted on television for the viewers and audiences of the top-tier of India football. The first issue that the AIFF committee had to discuss was regarding Churchill Brothers SC’s plea to get retained in the I-League 2018-19 season despite of being relegated to the second division after losses against Mohun Bagan and Minerva Punjab earlier this year. If AIFF decide to retain Churchill Brothers in the I-League first division, the number of matches would go up from 90, as the total number of teams would go up from 10 to 11.
And while that is the case that has already been making waves in Indian football latest news, the development where AIFF is mulling to broadcast only 50 matches for the season on television has landed in the latest Indian football news today. While no concrete decision has yet been taken in this regard, it would certainly be a negative one for India football, if finalised.
