Latest Cricket News today: Mithali told Jhulan Goswami, “You’re ditching me and I’d be all alone in West Indies now”
As reported by Cricbuzz in latest cricket news today, Jhulan Goswami spoke about breaking the news to her old friend and the captain of the Women’s national ODI cricket team, Mithali Raj. Goswami said, “Mithali knew. Mithu said ‘you’re ditching me and I’d be all alone in West Indies now’. But she understood my point of view when I explained it to her.”
Jhulan Goswami spoke about the decision to retire from T20 cricket and and explained that she only wants to focus her energy on ODI cricket, in which the veteran is the highest wicket-taker and had become the first woman cricketer to bag 200 wickets. As reported in latest cricket news live, Jhulan Goswami said,
“It’s not an overnight decision. I wasn’t enjoying the format for a while but I kept pushing myself saying, ‘okay, let’s try one more series maybe?’. But I wasn’t able to enjoy it. So I decided it’s better to concentrate my energies on just one format.”
The last time Goswami had found herself struggling in a another T20 cricket league was earlier this year at the Asia Cup, where India lost twice to Bangladesh and surrendered their title for the first time since the inception of the tournament years ago. The development had made waves in India cricket news on a sour note, and what was more troublesome for Jhulan Goswami, was the fact that she had managed only one wicket in four games that she played.
The forgetful outing only reassured Jhulan Goswami about her urge to retire from T20 cricket altogether. As reported in latest cricket news today, the 35-year-old cited such underwhelming outings and explained why her retiring from the shortest format had been on the cards for a while. Speaking about her retirement from T20 cricket just a few months before what would have been her sixth T20 World Cup, Jhulan Goswami said,
“Retirement [from T20Is] had been on my mind for a few months now. It is not easy to suddenly decide to give up on it, too. When you have been playing for such a long time – this is my job, this has earned me all the name and fame that I have today – so it wasn’t easy to give up. But you have to be honest with yourself and with your team. I felt this was the right decision to make.”
