- BCCI has shelled out Gambhir a part of its gross revenue earned between 2011 and 2014
- The board has also cleared the dues for Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara
In Latest Cricket News, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dished out a handsome sum of INR 1,04,24,507 to former opener Gautam Gambhir, who last featured in a Test match for India in the year 2016. The payment has been made as a share of the gross revenue generated by the board during 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2014-15 for overseas series played during these periods.
Gambhir played quite a few memorable knocks for India
While he last played a limited-overs game for India way back in 2013, Gambhir’s most recent appearance for the national team came in a Test match against England in Rajkot in November 2016. The left-hander was an integral part of the Indian setup under former skipper MS Dhoni and played match-winning knocks in the finals of T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup at home in 2011.
Gambhir, who managed 4,154 runs in 58 Tests at an average of 41.95 with nine hundreds; 5,238 runs in 147 ODIs at an average of 39.68 with 11 tons and 932 runs in 37 T20Is at a strike rate of 119 plus, has been out of favour with the national selectors since 2016 but continues to be a stalwart for the Delhi Ranji team. He was even appointed as the captain of a new-look Delhi Daredevils side ahead of IPL 2018 this year but had to step down after below-par performances in the tournament.
The opener, who formed a great working partnership with Virender Sehwag at the top of the order for India, had been in international wilderness for quite some time before his consistent domestic performance was rewarded and he was handed a Test recall during India’s long Test run at home during the 2016/17 season.
However, he was soon dropped from the team and has since been out of reckoning with Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul fighting for the two opening slots in the Test team. As already stated, Gambhir continues to be a leading scorer in the Indian domestic circuit as he amassed a tally of 638 runs during the 2017/18 Ranji season and led Delhi to the final of the tournament.
Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara also get their dues
More on this Latest Cricket News as other than shelling out a hefty sum to Gambhir, the BCCI has also cleared the dues of Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara. The former India captain and current India A and U-19 coach Dravid has been paid a professional fees of INR 40,50,000 for the month of June.
Pujara, his successor at the Number 3 slot for India, has also pocketed INR 27,00,000 as 10% retainership fee for rendering his services to the Test team during the period between October 2017 and March 2018.
