- After scoring just 21 runs in 4 innings till now, Dinesh Karthik is all set to lose his spot in the 3rd Test match
- Rishabh Pant, who has impressed a lot of people with his maturity to play vital knocks might be drafted into the playing 11
- India currently trailing hosts 2-0 in the 5-match Test series and desperately need a win to restore some of the lost pride
After it was confirmed that Wriddhiman Saha would be missing the England vs India Test Series, Dinesh Karthik was handed a wonderful opportunity to have long run in the team and hopefully with some key performances cement his place in the India Test team.
However, it’s just been disastrous the English tour for Karthik till now, having scored just 21 runs in four innings, including two ducks, the 33-year-old is on the verge of going out of the playing eleven as Captain Kohli plots India’s comeback strategy.
Latest Cricket News: Dinesh Karthik’s poor run might just come to an end with his exit from the playing 11
Dinesh Karthik’s international career got a new lease of life after his heroic innings in Sri Lanka earlier this year which helped India win the Nidahas Trophy and much was expected from him in England but unfortunately, his performances have been far from ideal and have contributed greatly to India’s ongoing Test debacle.
As per the latest cricket news, Rishabh Pant, who is still waiting to make his Test debut might be drafted into the starting 11 for the 3rd Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The 20-year-old wicket-keeper batsman doesn’t have any international experience when it comes to the longest format of the game and has played only 4 T20I’s which is why expectations need to be kept in check when reviewing his performance.
What we are hoping for is that his past experience of playing in this country combined with his aggression could elevate India’s performance for the remainder of the series. The fact that none of the Indian batsmen apart from Virat Kohli have managed to score even a half-century in this series, which just goes to indicate the need for a change in the system before the start of the 3rd Test.
Latest Cricket News: Pant definitely has the confidence of former under-19 coach Rahul Dravid
“He is always going to be an attacking player, but reading of the situation when one is playing red-ball cricket is required. We are glad he has been picked in the national team and I hope he takes this maturity and builds thereon,” former Indian captain Rahul Dravid had said following Pant’s inclusion in the Test squad following the injury toWriddhiman Saha.
With the 3rd Test starting in under 48 hours, it feels like Dinesh Karthik has missed his big chance to make his place in the Indian Test team permanent. What’s even more disappointing is the fact that on his first tour to England, Karthik had opened the batting for India and returned this year with plenty of experience of how to tackle the conditions and the swinging ball.
It’s hard to see how India can make their way back into the series, but with a couple of changes to the starting eleven, India can definitely improve on their horrendous performance in the 2nd Test match at Lords.
