Indian Super League outfit Mumbai City FC recently made waves in Indian football news when they parted ways with their former coach Alexandre Guimaraes. And now to replace the Costa Rican, the ISL team which is also nicknamed ‘the Islanders’, are on the verge of signing former Portuguese International Jorge Costa as their head coach ahead of the ISL 2018-19 season, as reported in Indian football latest news.

Indian football latest news: Jorge Costa will replace Alexandre Guimarães, who failed to steer Mumbai City to the semi-finals in the last season of ISL football

The development has been reported in Indian football latest news, but the fact that the future of Alexandre Guimaraes was not clear as head coach at Mumbai City FC was made evident when the Costa Rican had failed to take the ISl team to the semi-final playoffs in the last season of ISL football. Therefore, it is even understandable that Guimaraes would now be replaced by the 46-year-old former Portuguese footballer turned coach Jorge Costa.

It has also been reported in Indian football news that the ISL team Mumbai City FC was in talks with several other managerial candidates, but as confirmed in Indian football latest news by Goal, the Islanders have almost finalised the deal with Jorge Costa.

Jorge Costa has had a vast and deep coaching experience in European leagues, such as the Tours FC in Ligue 2, Portuguese clubs such as Sporting Braga, Paços Ferreira and Arouca FC, and the Romanian football outfit CFR Cluj. His presence in the ISL team Mumbai City FC is bound to act as a boon for the Indian football players present in the club.

Additionally, Jorge Costa has also been in charge of the Gabon national team, as well, but failed to steer his team past the group stages in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. However, having enjoyed his fair share of success, the coach has won the Portuguese second division with Olhanense and the Romanian league title with CFR Cluj.

Indian Football news: This will be Jorge Costa’s first managerial stint in Asia

As revealed in Indian football news, something which will be significant for ISL news and ISl football, Jorge Costa, who was the former defender in FC Porto, is going to perform his first-ever managerial stint in Asia, and the ISL team would be hoping they reach the semi-final playoffs in the ISL 2018-19 season, something which went unachieved in the last season of ISL football.

Mumbai City are also yet to wrap up their foreign signings for the ISL 2018-19 season, having their skipper Lucian Goian the only overseas player on the roster as of now.
