Manchester United fans are currently in split whether to support and seek the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford. The Portuguese manager may have won the League Cup and the Europ Cup in his first 2 seasons but the playing style of Mourinho’s Manchester United has always been questioned and it continues to attract unwanted criticism for the defensive approach followed by his team. Even before the 2018/19 season has started, pundits and fans alike are already suggesting that Mourinho could get the sack before the end of this year just like it happened with him at Chelsea back in the 2015/16 season. However, Jose Mourinho has been a serial winner in the past and despite having 2 underwhelming seasons at Old Trafford, there are enough signs for him to enjoy a stellar 2017/18 campaign with Manchester United. Mourinho might not have got his wish by signing a new central defender but it’s Manchester United and Mourinho we are talking about and the Portuguese manager must have a trick or two up his sleeve as he prepares to enter his 3rd season in charge of the club. On that note, we take a look at the 5 reasons why Jose Mourinho will enjoy a successful 2018/19 season with Man United.
1). Jose Mourinho has a very strong squad to work with this season
Man United may not have spent the big bucks this summer but when you look at their squad, you have David De Gea who is Premier League’s best goalkeeper. In Eric Bailly, United have the luxury of fielding one of the most robust central defenders in the league followed by Nemanja Matic, who was a rock in the heart of United’s midfield last season. Then Man United have Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, and Romelu Lukaku at the peak of their powers who will be ably supported by the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford which makes United’s squad a rather fearsome one ahead of the new season. Mourinho has a very strong set of players to work with and if things go his way, we could see a very successful season from Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.
2). Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku’s successful World Cup campaigns
Going into the FIFA World Cup 2018, Manchester United fans were hoping for a strong display from their key players at the competition and two players who did exactly that were Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. The duo shares a very close relationship both on and off the pitch which is a good news for the Man United fans and Jose Mourinho as both of them have come into the 2018/19 season on the back of a very strong World Cup 2018. If Pogba and Lukaku can replicate their World Cup 2018 form, Man United fans could be in for a special season under Jose Mourinho’s management.
3). Lindelof, Pereira, Alexis, and Fred will be seen as new additions
The only marquee Manchester United signing this summer was the Brazilian midfielder Fred, however, the likes of Victor Lindelof, Andreas Pereira, and Alexis Sanchez will look to start the season on a high and almost like it is their first season with the club. Lindelof hardly got any playing time last season but had a great World Cup 2018. Alexis joined Man United in January 2018 and this will be his first full season at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Andreas Pereira had a very successful pre-season with the club and is likely to even get a starting XI place in United’s opening game of the season against Leicester City. All these players will have a huge say in Man United’s and Jose Mourinho’s 2018/19 season as the Manchester United manager.
4). The atmosphere within the squad looks really healthy
Despite the negative press coverage of the Manchester United squad, the fact remains that the players at Old Trafford are very close to each other and have a strong bond within the squad. With David De Gea set to stay for even longer at the club, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera will continue to form the “Three Amigos” group at the club. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Marcus Rashford are the jokers at the club while everyone shares a close relationship with Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia. Nemanja Matic often acts as the big brother to the new players and Fred has seemed to settle very well since signing for the club. We could see these players take up the responsibility of being the leaders on the pitch and help Jose Mourinho enjoy a successful 2018/19 season.
5). Mourinho is still the Serial Winner he once was
Jose Mourinho rarely fails to remind everyone of his achievement as a football manager but the fact remains the same that after Sir Alex Ferguson, he is the most successful Premier League manager with 3 league titles to his name. Jose Mourinho has seen a slide in last 2-3 seasons but his past achievements still mean a lot to him and tell us exactly the kind of manager he still is. Man United has not been an easy job so far for the Portuguese manager but given the positivity among his players and his belief in this squad could see him achieve special things and finally break his 3rd season hoodoo. Mourinho has failed to manage 3 complete seasons everywhere he has managed but Manchester United could finally be his long-term destination where he can lead the club back to the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson.
