5 reasons why Jose Mourinho could be sacked before December 2018

It may not be the best time to be a Manchester United fan given the shambolic summer transfer window where Man Utd failed to sign any of their central defensive targets. Needless to say, Jose Mourinho is not happy with the fact that Manchester United board failed to sign Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld or Yerri Mina despite Mourinho letting the board know in advance of his desired transfer targets. Given the internal conflicts between Mourinho and senior members of the Manchester United board, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Mourinho’s future at Manchester United. Mourinho has never managed any team for 3 complete seasons and given the rocky start Mourinho has faced this summer, we may see him get the sack before December like he faced in his second stint at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho news is making the headlines all over the web with his irritating demeanor during press conferences which have led several United fans to believe in the fact that Mourinho could actually get sacked during the 2018/19 season. On that note, here are the 5 reasons why Jose Mourinho could be sacked before December.

1). Differences between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho

Paul Pogba will return to Manchester United as the only World Cup winner in Mourinho’s squad and it is high time both Pogba and Mourinho sort out their creative differences and figure out a way to help Manchester United on the field. However, initial signs do not tell the same story as Mourinho was not too pleased with Pogba’s World Cup success and instead challenged him to replicate his World Cup success over a period of 38 games for Manchester United. Paul Pogba is seeking a greater freedom to operate with which Mourinho is reluctant in offering to the Frenchman. Unless Mourinho finds a way to sort Pogba’s positional sense, we may see another underwhelming season from Pogba which could result in Man United’s sluggish start to the season eventually leading to Mourinho getting the sack during the course of 2018/19 season.

2). Style of play still not in sync with what fans want

Jose Mourinho was never the sort of manager whose playing style would get the fans off their seat week in and week out, however, winning things has made Mourinho one of the most successful managers in the modern era. Having said that, last season was a total disaster for Mourinho where the Portuguese could neither deliver the playing style nor did he win any major trophy. Manchester United faithfuls have become increasingly frustrated with the brand of football they have been seeing at Old Trafford and unless results change for their side this season, they would want to see a change in management and Mourinho could be sacked before December 2018.

3). Internal conflicts between the board and Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is one of the most polarising personalities in the modern football but even his greatest detractors would agree to the fact that Mourinho was massively let down by the Man Utd board this summer where they failed to sign any of Mourinho’s transfer targets. The transfer failures led to Mourinho cutting a disgruntled figure during the press conferences and took direct shots at the board and their ambition. Ed Woodward and The Glazer family have also received a great deal of criticism from all over the world which has seen the club get a lot of negative media coverage. These days, media and fans’ social media comments/reviews matter a lot in the way the atmosphere around a club is built these days. Mourinho will need to battle his way against all of these factors and given the initial few days of the new season, we may see Mourinho get the sack even before he gets enough time to stamp his authority on the team.

4). Zinedine Zidane’s availability

According to reports from Daily Mirror, Ed Woodward has grown fond of Zinedine Zidane as the manager after winning 3 back-to-back Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Woodward sees Zidane as the best-suited manager to take Man United forward which has taken the recent Jose Mourinho news towards a state where Mourinho is likely to get the sack during the course of 2018/19 season. Zidane’s style of play at Real Madrid was adored by all sets of fans and Woodward believes if Mourinho cannot turn the season around, he will get rid of Mourinho and appoint Zidane as the new Man Utd manager. Zidane is currently without a club and is likely to take the role of Football Director in coming weeks, however, Woodward believes that he can lure Zidane to Old Trafford if Mourinho gets the sack this season.

5). Mourinho’s third season syndrome

Jose Mourinho has never been able to cross the hoodoo of managing any team for 3 complete seasons. Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea and now Manchester United, everywhere Jose Mourinho has found it very hard to negotiate the third season and it has often ended in an ugly spat, none uglier than his previous stint at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho will hope to get his act together and find the much-needed squad harmony which will help him and Manchester United regain their lost confidence. Having said that, the start of 2018/19 season has been very underwhelming for Mourinho where he seems to have lost the trust of his board and few of his players. These factors could once again see Mourinho struggle in his third season at Manchester United and eventually get the sack during the course of the current season.
