With the 2nd Test match between India and England starting at Lords in just a few hours, Kohli and his men are engrossed in their final preparations as they look to carve their way back into the series. Latest Cricket News: Indian batsmen have a lot to learn from Virat Kohli
The biggest positive to come out of the 1st Test match for India was the brilliant batting by captain Virat Kohli. The right-hander scored over 200 runs in the Test match and was arguably the only Indian batsman who showed any kind of resilience against pace battery of Broad, Anderson and Curran.
In latest cricket news, Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly recently wrote about Virat Kohli in his column for Times of India, he said,”Virat Kohli’s conviction and determination to grind in difficult situations, his selection of shots, and ability to dominate the bowlers in every sphere of the game extraordinary.
He may not have been at his fluent best at Birmingham but his attitude of not giving up stands tall. This is also an example of batsmanship: Even if it’s not your day, you still make the runs. It’s a huge statement that the other batsman in the team need to stand up.”
Although in the batting department, Kohli was the only shining light for India, it was the bowling contingent that did a superb job that not only put India in a commanding position with the ball but even helped the team climb out of a hole with their batting contribution. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers picking up 7 wickets in the match, including Alastair Cook twice with almost identical deliveries. He will be hoping to cement his spot in the Test playing 11 with a massive threat to his place from the upcoming youngsters.
Latest Cricket News: Kuldeep Yadav should be brought into the playing 11 to be a foil to Ashwin
In latest cricket news, speaking about Ashwin, Ganguly wrote,”The positive thing for India is the bowling. All the bowler did a grand job, especially Ashwin. He has added a lot more variety to his repertoire and will continue to be a massive threat to the opposition. He is conscious about the need to succeed overseas and has improved immensely since the time his spot was challenged by younger players.”
As per the Former Indian captain, Ollie Pope is being brought into the English playing 11 with the sole purpose of countering the off-spin of Ashwin. Ganguly also feels that India should bring in Kuldeep Yadav as well in order to provide support to Ashwin from the other end. However, a mistake India can’t commit is going into the 2nd Test match without less than 5 frontline bowlers.
Ganguly wrote,”India needs to think about a second spinner at Lord’s. It’s been very hot and history shows it spins at Lord’s and, as far as I’m concerned, Kuldeep Yadav would be the right choice. At no stage, however, should India compromise on the five-bowler option.”
Ever since the 1st Test match has ended, there has been a massive clamour from all sectors to include Kuldeep Yadav in the 2nd Test match, in order to provide an excellent foil to Ravi Ashwin.
