I-League outfit and the champions of the the last edition, Minerva Punjab FC, and the champions of the last edition of the Indian Super League (ISL), Chennaiyin FC, will most likely play their continental home matches of the AFC Cup 2019 at Ahmedabad’s TranStadia Arena, as confirmed in Indian football latest news. The 16th edition of the AFC Cup, organised by the Asian Football Confederation, will kickoff in February 2019 and will go on till November.

Previously, it was being speculated that Minerva Punjab FC, who made waves in India football a few months ago after winning the I-League 2017/18 title for the first time, would play their AFC Cup 2019 games at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar. However, as reported in Indian football news by Goal, that the club based out of Chandigarh was in “advanced talks” with the management of the TranStadia Arena.

Summed up as the champions of the top-tiers of India football in last season, Minerva Punjab FC (I-League) and Chennaiyin FC (ISL), will participate in the AFC Cup 2019. And as reported in Indian football news, while Minerva will play in the AFC Champions League play-off round, Chennaiyin will play in the AFC Cup preliminary stage.

Minerva Punjab FC have seen some organisational changes in their management ahead of the I-League 2018/19 season, as they parted ways with their former coach Khogen Singh, appointing former assistant coach Sachin Badade as their new head coach. They also made waves in Indian football latest news when they appointed Paul Munster as their new Technical Director.

Witnessing changes in their field as well, Minerva also signed Yu Kuboki to fill in the void left open by Chencho Gyeltshen, the top-performer of their last season.

Speaking about the waves made in the Indian football news by the ISL team Chennaiyin FC, the champions of the last season have signed a host of new players for the ISL 2018-19 season, namely; defender Tondonba Singh, midfielder Sinivasan Pandiyan and goalkeeping duo Sanjiban Ghosh and Nikhil Bernard. Mizoram trio; Issac Vanmalsawma, Zohmingliana Ralte and Laldinliana Renthlei have also signed a contract with the ISL team for the ISL 2018-19 season.

Chennaiyin FC, who booked their ticket to the AFC Cup 2019 tournament when they defeated ISL giants Bengaluru FC in the final of ISL 2017/18, inspected the TranStadia Arena last week, as reported in Indian football news, are expected to take a final call soon.
