  • Indian football news revealed a huge development when it was announced that the ISL 2018-19 season will have three mid-season breaks
  • The three mid-season breaks, including a massive 40-day hiatus in the ISL 2018-19 season, is to accommodate the Indian national football team’s 2019 AFC Asian Cup campaign

The 2019 AFC Asian Cup is set to kick-off in January next year in United Arab Emirates (UAE), and keeping in mind that a number of Indian football players in the Indian Super League (ISL) would need to play for the Indian national football team for the quadrennial event, the ISL 2018-19 season will have three mid-season breaks, as reported in Indian football latest news today. The development is significant for India football, and below we will see how exactly.

Indian national football team is set to take part in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, in which it has been drawn in Pot 3, with teams such as Lebanon, Palestine and Vietnam. The head coach of the national team, Stephen Constantine, was seen time and again complaining about how the ISL teams were usually unwilling to send their Indian football players for the national team’s projects, which ultimately hampered the success of the national team in tournaments, the prime example of which is the upcoming 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

If we consider, however, that this unwillingness on the part of the ISL teams to send their Indian football players to the national team’s camp was due to the evident clashes in dates and fixtures of the Indian Super League and the Indian national team, the move is also not completely unjustified.

The ISL 2018-19 season will begin on September 29, and will have it’s first mid-season break in tandem with the FIFA window, i.e. October 8-15, during which the Indian national football team will travel to China for a historic friendly fixture. The second break in the ISL 2018-19 season will be during the next FIFA window, i.e. November 12-20.
