- Rahul Dravid is happy with Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw’s improvement in recent seasons
- Dravid has even tipped Mayank and Shaw to play in the senior side in coming time
- Mayank scored 220 and Shaw managed 136 runs against South Africa-A side
In today’s latest cricket news, Rahul Dravid has given quite a firm answer about two of his young players making the Indian senior test side following their impressive performances in for the India-A team. Speaking with Times Now, Dravid opened up on the possibility of seeing both batsmen playing for India in coming times. Dravid was very cautious with his comments do not put enough pressure on the young players and rather he highlighted the improvements both Mayank and Shaw have shown in recent months and Dravid said it is nice to see them do well.
Speaking with Times Now, Dravid said: “It’s a bit of a loaded question and I know what the headlines will be tomorrow when I answer that question. All I will say is, I think they have shown over the last year or so with their performances that they are playing very good cricket. It’s nice to see them developing and growing as players.
“Whether there is an opportunity or not is not for me to decide. Mayank was quite exceptional in this game and Prithvi has shown continuous improvement in every level he has played.”
Mayank and Shaw to be the solution to India’s middle order?
Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw enjoyed a stellar domestic season and both of those batsmen piled up a 277-run partnership against South Africa-A side which helped India-A side win the match with ease. Mayank scored 220 runs while Shaw managed to score 136 runs against South Africa-A side and further staked their claim to play for India senior side in coming years.
We have seen how Indian middle order of Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya struggle in recent months, and not only against England. Meanwhile, Murali Vijay’s struggles are known to everyone with Shikhar Dhawan’s test form being inconsistent in recent weeks. Barring Virat Kohli, we have not seen many Indian batsmen have a consistent run in the test arena. With players like Mayank Aggarwal and Prithvi Shaw showing vital performances in recent seasons, it may be about time before these youngsters get a fair crack at the national side.
England series may have come too soon
Cheteshwar Pujara is almost a certain figure to play in the 2nd test match and it may be too soon for the players like Mayank and Shaw to get a chance in the ongoing England series. Under Rahul Dravid’s guidance, it may be the best idea for them to continue developing their game and continue their run-scoring in the domestic side and then be eligible to play in the India national team.
