- Shakib Al-Hasan claimed Bangladesh missed a player like Andre Russell in their defeat in the 1st T20I game of the series
- Russell smashed a 21-ball 35 to help West Indies chase down 91 in just 9.1 over mark
In today’s latest cricket news, Bangladesh T20I skipper Shakib Al-Hasan praised Andre Russell’s hitting ability and claimed that his team lacked a player like Russell when it came to the latter parts of their innings. Bangladesh suffered a crushing defeat in the first T20I match in the 3-match series when West Indies chased down a total of 91 in just 9.1 over mark. The game was cut short due to rain where and Bangladesh despite posting 100 runs in their first 11 overs lost the way and could not finish the inning strongly. In reply, Russell smashed 35 runs in just 21 balls to lead West Indies chase.
Shakib has played with Russell in the IPL
Shakib Al-Hasan knows Andre Russell very well after spending 3 seasons together at the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Shakib was very complimentary towards Russell and praised the game-changing ability of his former IPL teammate.
Shakib said: “At one stage we were 100 in 11 overs but by that stage we also lost five wickets. It’s tough to make a comeback from that position unless you have someone like Andre Russell or someone like him who can change the game single-handedly,” Shakib told reporters after the defeat.
Shakib accepted defeat in the first T20I game with grace and vowed to be back for the remaining 2 games in the series. Having won the ODI series, Bangladesh are expected to make a strong comeback in the remaining two T20I games where Windies will know that they will be coming up against a side who on their day are capable of beating almost any team in the world.
