While a lot of top-tier clubs are making waves in the latest Indian football news regarding their transfers and signings ahead of the upcoming season of Indian football, it turns out that Dempo SC, who play in the I-League second division, are making moves of their own as well. The Goa-based club is on the verge of signing former Indian midfielder Climax Lawrence as their head coach, something which will surely make waves in Indian football latest news as Lawrence is considered a legend among the Indian football players of the past and present.
Climax Lawrence had started making waves in India football when he first played at the U-14 level with Sirvodem Sports Club, under Armando Colaco, who is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in India football, with his illustrious records coming from coaching spells at the I-League club East Bengal FC, and Dempo SC.
As reported by Goal, Colaco spoke about the time when he had spotted Climax Lawrence for the first time and said, “His skills were above the rest. I told him not to be a delicate darling because he was a little bit of a weakling when he started.”
Being a coach requires you to think about the 23 players in your team, looking forward to it: Climax Lawrence says in Indian football latest news
As a player, Climax Lawrence was rated as one of the finest midfielders in India football. The Goa-born had literally enjoyed a complete dominance at the heart of the midfield for Dempo SC, earning the club as many as five I-League titles. And now, what is heart warming for the followers of the Indian football news is that it’s time for the Goan legend to return to Dempo SC, this time as a coach.
In an exclusive interaction with XtraTime, Lawrence Climax had said, “Yes, I am closing in on joining Dempo. Though, I am yet to sign the contract. It will be challenging for me. Because it is lot easier to play as a player, you just have to play the role as an individual. But when it comes to play the role of a coach, you have to think about the 23 players you have in your team. I am looking forward to it. I have fond memories with the club.”
Although Climax Lawrence had first started as a striker in his youth career, it was after joining Salgaocar FC in 1988, that coach Marcos Pacheco deployed the Goan in a deeper position in the midfield. Resultantly, in a time when Indian football players didn’t enjoy much success or fame, Lawrence helped his team win the National Football League (NFL), Super Cup, Rovers Cup and Durand Cup titles in senior club-football.
He also joined East Bengal in the 2002/03 season of India football, and went on to win three trophies in a year with them, namely; Kolkata Premier League, Durand Cup and the San Miguel International Cup. Later on in 2005, Dempo SC had presented to Climax Lawrence a tempting offer to join the Goan club with Armando Colaco at the helm, something that was at the heart of the Indian football news at that time as well.
He was called up to play for the Indian national football team in 2002 by Stephen Constantine, after which Lawrence made another series of Indian football news, helping the national Indian football players win the AFC Challenge Cup, when he scored the winning goal in the 91st minute against Afghanistan to register India’s 1-0 victory.
It seemed as if a crucial part of India football had come to an end when retired from the national setup in 2012. However, with the Indian football latest news pronouncing the return of Climax Lawrence to Dempo SC as a coach, it is only reassuring for the fans of the India football to learn that the I-League giants are in safe hands.
