- I-League outfit East Bengal FC was making waves in Indian football news with their urge to enter the Indian Super League for the ISL 2018-19 season
- The top brass at EBFC were hopeful that the club could make it, especially after signing a joint-venture deal with Quess Corporation Ltd, but the Indian football latest news points in the other direction
I-League outfit East Bengal FC had signed a major sponsorship deal with Quess Corporation Ltd recently, and riding on the prospects of the deal, the club was hoping that they make it to the Indian Super League ahead of the ISL 2018-19 season. As reported in Indian football news, the EBFC management had also been rather vocal about this wish. However, Indian football latest news reports the recent statements made by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which point to the fact that neither of the two Calcutta football giants can make it to the fifth season of ISL football, including Mohun Bagan FC.
Indian football latest news: While East Bengal FC face lack of bids from ISL football, Mohun Bagan have problems of their own
As reported by Telegraph India in Indian football news, an official of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) made a statement which becomes significant automatically for both, EBFC and Mohun Bagan, and a hot-topic in Indian football latest news. The official told The Telegraph,
“Apart from paucity of time, there are several factors involved in it. It is difficult to see any of the two teams, especially East Bengal, playing the ISL V. Mohun Bagan, we believe, have their own problems. Let them solve those first.”
“East Bengal have spoken to AIFF president Praful Patel. He has been honestly trying for them since the club have roped in a good sponsor a few days back. But the problem is that we do not see any chance of ISL organisers opening up the bid this season to accommodate new teams. It would happen but not before the next season.”
The AIFF official explained another reason why it would be difficult for East Bengal FC to enter the ISL football in it’s fifth edition, i.e. ISL 2018-19, and said that the club’s rigidity to play only in Calcutta is the major hurdle towards their inclusion in the Indian Super League.
The ISL team Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) are based out of Calcutta, and with East Bengal FC insisting to not be flexible with their venue, it is hard to imagine how two teams can come from the same city to play in the Indian Super League. The AIFF official added to the Indian football news and said, “We all appreciate East Bengal’s efforts to be a part of ISL but in all probability, it could be from the next season.”
The ISL 2018-19 season is set to initiate from the third week of September, right after the SAFF championship ends in Dhaka.
