India football is reaching new heights day by day, with some teams of the ISL football taking on La Liga outfits in pre-season friendlies such as Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC. The Indian football latest news reveals that the ISL team Chennaiyin FC have signed a former player of the Premier League team Chelsea FC, Kevin Hitchcock, as their goalkeeping coach for the ISL 2018-19 season. Having won the last edition of ISL football, Chennaiyin FC are looking to overhaul their squad and prospects for the ISL 2018-19 season.

Kevin Hitchcock brings immense experience from English football to the ISL defending champions Chennaiyin FC for ISL 2018-19 season

Kevin Hitchcock had an immensely lengthy playing career in football before he transitioned to coaching. The 55-year-old Englishman had spent the initial part of his career at Mansfield Town, and had helped the team attain promotion from the  played for sides such as Mansfield Town and helped the club in 1986 to attain promotion from the Fourth Division.

The London-born goalkeeper was soon picked up by Chelsea FC in a lucrative deal. However, Kevin Hitchcock’s career at Chelsea was impaired with injuries and it saw him make around 96 appearance in a total span of 13 years. Nonetheless, the signing is bound to be a boon for the Indian football players in the ISL team, Chennaiyin FC.

After completing his years as a player, he then served as a goalkeeping coach at the Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Fulham FC, Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City. On having signed with the ISL team Chennaiyin FC for ISL 2018-19 season, the veteran expressed his excitement and said that he has heard a ton of good things about India football and specifically, ISL football.

Chennaiyin FC made the announcement on Saturday (July 28) on their Twitter handle and rocked the Indian football latest news, specially the fans of ISL football.

As reported in Indian football latest news and ISL news on the official website of Chennaiyin FC, Kevin Hitchcock said,

“I had a great working experience in Qatar and I have heard very positive things about India football and ISL, so I am looking forward to it. I am excited to work with John and his staff which also includes Paul who I know very well. Chennaiyin FC has three top-class goalkeepers with two of them fresh signings. I can’t wait for the start of pre-season and help the club defend the ISL title.”

While there are already a handful of foreign footballers playing for Chennaiyin FC, the arrival of Kevin Hitchcock as the goalkeeping coach at the ISL team is bound to pay dividends for their rise in India football, and can also help them stay at the center of Indian football news.
