  • In Latest Cricket News, MS Dhoni is now the most admired sports personality in India ahead of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar
  • Dhoni is only behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the most admired India

MS Dhoni continues to scale new heights even at 37 years of age. The legendary wicketkeeper has now emerged as the ‘most admired sports personality’ in India as he beat the two other quintessential superstars of Indian cricket – Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar – to emerge on top of a poll conducted by English surveying agency YouGov.

Dhoni the most admired Indian after PM Modi

Overall, Dhoni is the second most admired Indian in this world with Prime Minister Narendra Modi trumping him to the top spot. To add to this Latest Cricket News, the recent survey undertaken by yougov.co.uk reveals that batting legend Tendulkar bagged the sixth spot in the list of most admired and followed sports personalities in India while incumbent skipper Kohli only managed to finish eighth in the list.

Despite retiring from Test cricket in 2014 and also stepping down as India’s limited-overs captain in early 2017, Dhoni’s popularity levels remain intact even at the twilight of his playing career. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who called it quits in 2013, also continues to enjoy the attention of Indian sports fans.

While captain Kohli has successfully taken over the mantle of India’s top cricketer from Tendulkar and Dhoni, he still has some way to go before matching the two legends in terms of following and admiration among the masses of this country.

Football legends also make it to the list

Coming back to the survey conducted by YouGov which feature in today’s Latest Cricket News columns, footballing superstars and arch-rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi also found a place in this list of most admired sports personalities in India. The Portuguese captain, who recently made headlines with his move to Juventus from Real Madrid, bagged 2.6% votes in the poll. Barcelona talisman Messi had 2% of the total votes cast in his favour. With 1.6% votes, former England and Manchester United captain David Beckham also made it to this elite list compiled by the UK agency.
