  • The stage is now set for Leonardo Bonucci to return to Juventus, merely a year after leaving the club for AC Milan
  • Milan want to sign Mattia Caldara and Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus

Prominent Italian daily Calcio Mercato has revealed that Juventus are now confident of sealing a return for Leonardo Bonucci in the coming days. To elaborate on this AC Milan Transfer News, the path has been cleared for the 31-year-old to head back to Turin after a long meeting between Juve CEO Beppe Marotta, Sporting Director Fabio Paratici and Leonardo, AC Milan’s brand new Sporting Director.

While no price tag has yet been set for Bonucci who only left Juventus for San Siro last summer, Milan are keen to explore the possibility of exchanging him for the highly-rated centre-back Mattia Caldara. Meanwhile, the Serie A champions are also insisting on selling striker Gonzalo Higuain to the Rossoneri.

Leonardo is still in the process of formulating a strategy to land the former Napoli striker and is in no hurry to conclude this particular deal as signing Higuain will also take significant a hit on Milan’s transfer budget for the summer. Juventus, on their part, want a concrete assurance about the opportunity to get rid of the 30-year-old striker and let Cristiano Ronaldo take centre-stage.

Revealed – AC Milan’s Strategy for Higuain and Morata

Calcio Mercato’s report further states that coach Gennaro Gattuso and new sporting director Leonardo have a clear strategy in place and want to use Bonucci’s strong will to return to Turin to get Caldara in return in a straight swap deal or for a minimal amount. About signing a new striker, they are calm and are keeping all options open at this stage.

Juventus are keen to offload Higuain as soon as possible as they are aware of the fact that the striker might have to be sold at a discounted price if he fails to find any takers quickly. Leonardo is well aware of the whole situation and has in no way given up on signing ‘El Pipita’.

If, however, they fail in their pursuit of the Argentine striker, Alvaro Morata has been mentioned as an alternative. Leonardo has been in direct touch with the Chelsea striker and even spoke to him over the phone with the 25-year-old communicating that he is willing to join Milan this summer. He is likely to cost somewhere in the region of €60 million, which is not a small amount by any means.

There is also a possibility that Maurizio Sarri might come in for Higuain, which in turn will be a direct signal to Morata that he is free to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. As such, Milan and Leonardo have a Plan A (Higuain) and Plan B (Morata) in place and have adopted a wait and watch policy for the time being.

The truth about Marko Pjaca

Yet another name which has popped up in AC Milan Transfer News circles is that of Marko Pjaca. The 23-year-old Croatian winger was mentioned during the recent meeting between Marotta, Paratici and Leonardo but is not a priority for Milan this summer. The Rossoneri are happy to concentrate on Higuain and Caldara and also negotiate Bonucci’s return to Juve on favourable terms.

Pjaca is clearly not a priority signing for Milan but given the crazy nature of negotiations and the players involved, nothing can be excluded completely. Like Leonardo, we must also wait and watch.
