- Barcelona not prepared to pay more for Chelsea winger Willian
- Barcelona have already offered in excess of €65million for Willian and now will look for other options
In today’s Barcelona transfer news, Barcelona have changed their stance on signing Willian as the club are not prepared to pay anything beyond €65million for a 29-year-old player. According to Sky Sports, Barcelona made a third bid in excess of €65million which Chelsea instantly rejected. Following up on the story, Spanish media house Sport have covered a story earlier today claiming that Barcelona will not be increasing their offer and are now turning back on their previous €65million bid for the Brazilian. Chelsea are desperate to hold on to Willian given the likelihood of Eden Hazard’s exit from the club.
Barcelona are targetting Aleksandr Golovin
Following the reports of Barcelona pulling out of Willian’s transfer, Sport understands that CSKA Moscow playmaker Aleksandr Golovin is now Barcelona’s prime target for this summer transfer window. Golovin played a similar role for Russia at the FIFA World Cup 2018 to what Willian does for Chelsea and is priced in the bracket of £30-40million. Golovin is also on the radar of Chelsea and AS Roma but Barcelona believe they can sign the player if they are convinced about not signing Willian this summer.
Golovin could actually play a key role in Barcelona transfer plans for next season given Chelsea’s interest in the player as well. If Golovin ends up signing for Chelsea, Willian could get the green light to join Barcelona while on the other hand, Barcelona are quietly confident about signing Golovin for almost half the price for Willian with Chelsea not willing to bring down their asking price for the Brazilian winger.
Barcelona transfer news and rumours ahead of 2018/19 season have been partially dominated by the exits the club are having to deal with. Andres Iniesta left the club after serving for over a decade which was followed by Paulinho’s move back to the Chinese Super League. Add to that, Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer, Nelson Semedo, Lucas Digne, and Thomas Vermaelen could also be heading out of the Camp Nou leaving the manager Ernesto Valverde a tough task of assembling a strong squad for the next season.
Antoine Griezmann’s failed transfer was another massive blow to Barcelona’s plans for the 2018/19 season. Ousmane Dembele is currently the third option in attack for Barcelona who spent much of the last season on the bench and was not an active member of France’s World Cup success either. Barcelona transfer news in coming weeks will be the key to determine whether or not they will able to retain the La Liga title next season despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s move away from Real Madrid.
