Indian Super League outfit NorthEast United FC are making sure that their performance in the ISL 2018-19 season is more positive than the previous ISL football season, where they finished last in the points table with 13 losses in 18 games. Having retained four players who had made waves in ISL news and even Indian football news last season, Reagan Singh, TP Rehenesh, Lalrempuia Fanai, and Rowllin Borges will play another season for NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) in search of ISL football glory.

The ISL team which also goes by the name of ‘The Highlanders’, have found themselves at the wrong side of the ISL football points table more often than not, and that too, despite of having a promising set of players. Having ranked consistently in the lower-rungs of the ISL football points table, NEUFC were 8th in the inaugural season of ISL football, 5th in the second season i.e. 2015-16. While they showed hope of resurgence when they again ranked 5th in the 2016-17 season of ISL football, the ISL 2018 season saw them hit rock bottom after two new teams – Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC – were introduced.

Making waves in Indian football news, NorthEast United FC made an announcement on their official Twitter handle that they had renewed the contracts of four of their footballers from the ISL 2018 season. While all the other ISL football clubs have already engaged in transfers moves, this is the first move by the North East-based ISL team for the ISL 2018-19 season.

Players retained by NEUFC for ISL 2018-19 season and their profiles

The first player to be retained by the North East-based ISL team was the 27-year-old defender Reagan Singh. The Manipur-born was first signed by NEUFC in 2015, and is an excellent Right-Back who can also be used as a Centre-Back. He had shifted for a season to the I-League but after having returned to NEUFC thereafter, he would look to cement his position in the club, and make

The second player to be retained by the ISL team was the 25-year-old shot-stopper TP Rehenesh. The player hailing from Kerala has had immense experience of Indian football with I-League clubs like Shillong Lajong FC and East Bengal FC, and could now be a regular with NorthEast United.

The third player who made waves in the Indian football news is a budding Mizoram-born midfielder, named Lalrempuia Fanai. The 22-year-old has also played for another ISL team, i.e. Pune City FC. However, as Fanai never got enough playing time with Pune City, his potential is yet to be fully exploited by NorthEast United FC.

The fourth player to be retained was Rowling Borges, the 26-year-old, 6-feet defensive midfielder who has been helping the Highlanders avert danger from the box on numerous occasions owing to his prowess in aerial duels. Rowllin has also donned the jersey of the Indian national football team on 22 different occasions, and so, is an experienced addition for the ISL team.

After NEUFC’s disappointing performances have made it in the Indian football news and ISL news, it was interpreted by many that the club had gone into slumber. However, the latest announcement in the ISL football news sends out a clear message that the club is very much alive and kicking.
