- N’Golo Kante played a crucial in France’s 2018 World Cup winning campaign
- The 27-year-old is being chased by a host of clubs but PSG are currently front-runners to acquire him this summer
- Chelsea asking price of £98m proving to be the only roadblock in front of PSG
After helping France win the World Cup in Russia, N’Golo Kante is currently enjoying a mini-break before the start of next season. However, while he is away on a much-needed break, Chelsea transfer rumours surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge are dominating the papers in England as well as France.
PSG looking to replace Thiago Motta with N’Golo Kante
As per leading French media outlet L’Équipe, Ligue 1 champions PSG are pursuing a deal for N’Golo Kante this summer, with Chelsea trying their best to hold on to the midfielder, who has in the last few seasons become one of the best in his position.
It was believed that central defensive midfielder was the top priority for PSG this summer, especially with Thiago Motta retiring. N’Golo Kante fits that bill perfectly but it’s not certain whether he truly wants to leave Chelsea yet and join the ongoing PSG revolution.
Even the price-tag that has been put on N’Golo Kante’s head by Chelsea is not suiting PSG situation right now especially when considering the Financial Fair Play, which they accused of breaching last season following the purchase of Neymar and Mbappe in record deals. The latest Chelsea FC Transfer News suggests that the Blues are asking for somewhere in the region of £98million for Kante, a price which definitely increased following his brilliant World Cup run with France.
Chelsea’s absence from the Champions League could be a driving factor
For Kante, the desire to join PSG will be driven by the possibility of playing in the Champions League, something he won’t be able to experience with Chelsea this year after they finished 5th on the English Premier League points table.
Now that Maurizio Sarri has also joined the club, Chelsea have started flexing their muscle in the transfer market. They recently purchased Jorginho from Napoli, who will be competing directly with a place on the starting 11 with Kante during some parts of the season, which could also give Kante something to think about as he enjoys his summer vacation.
