In an attempt to overhaul their squad and chances for glory in the next season of the I-League, Chennai City FC (CCFC) signed nine new players from the Chennai Football Association’s (CFA) senior division league. The club which was founded in 1946, spent most of it’s time playing in the local leagues and was inducted into the I-League for the first time in 2016. The upcoming season of the I-League will be CCFC’s third season in the top-tier of Indian football, and the club signing nine new players is sure to rock the latest Indian football news.
The nine new signees were shortlisted from a group of 25 players by Chennai City FC
The nine players signed by Chennai City FC are from the different departments of Chennai Football Association’s senior division league; Shine John (Hindustan Eagles), Shem Marton and Karthik (Viva Chennai), Rajeevan (Arrows), Ameerudeen (Income Tax), Ajith Kumar (CUFC), Jude Felix Nixon and Pravitto (Indian Bank) and Pradison (CCFC). The players singed are supposed to be the top-crop performers of the CFA senior division league, and could soon be seen making exciting Indian football latest news playing for CCFC.
Speaking about the selection process, Chennai City FC head coach Akbar Bin Abdul Nawas said, as reported by The Hindu in latest Indian football news,
“We closely followed these players during the senior division league and short-listed around 25 players. After that we had three days of training camp for these players before conducting a practice match.”
The CEO of Chennai City FC Nawas added that while the new signees were young and technically adept, their challenge would be getting used to the high intensity of football that prevails in the I-League. He said,
“We are really happy with the players we have selected. A lot of them are very young and sound technically. But the challenge for them is to get used to the intensity of play seen in the I-League, something they are not used to. Going forward, these players will need to improve physically and tactically.”
While the club looks in a really good position to take on the other I-League teams next season, they are looking to make sure that the newly signed players are guided well too. Therefore, the club is looking to sign K. Balakumaran as the assistant coach after Spaniard Jordi Villa packed his bags at CCFC to take a new job at New York City FC.
