- Indian football latest news revealed the squad for the Indian national football camp ahead of the SAFF Championship 2018
- What was the main highlight of this Indian football news was the fact that veterans such as Sunil Chhetri and Gurpreet Sandhu did not feature in the 34-man squad
With the South Asian Football Federation Championship (SAFF Championship 2018) set to take place from September 4, 2018, the squad for the Indian national football camp has been announced, something which is at the top of the latest Indian football news. However, while the development excites an Indian football fan, the fact that some of the main seniors and veterans, such as Sunil Chhetri and Gurpreet Sandhu, have not been included for the SAFF Cup 2018 is bound to appear grim in the Indian football latest news.
The international men’s football tournament, which takes place every two years, is back. The seven South Asian football teams who are to participate in the biennial event are gearing up to go against each other with the ultimate goal of being crowned the SAFF Cup 2018 winners. The SAFF Championship 2018 will take place from September 4 to September 15, 2018, and will be hosted in Bangladesh.
The South Asian football teams taking part in the SAFF Cup 2018 are; India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. However, these 7 teams taking part in the SAFF Championship 2018 will be divided into two groups of three and four, respectively. And a development which can end on a positive note for India, and will soon enter the latest Indian football news is the fact that they have been drawn in the same group as Sri Lanka and Maldives.
And while the two groups have been divided unequally, the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, out of which the top two will contest the SAFF Cup 2018 final on September 15. The last edition of the SAFF Championship had taken place in 2015, with India clinching that title and making Indian football news back then. Afghanistan, who had finished as runners-up in that edition, have not even qualified for the SAFF Championship 2018 also known as SAFF Cup 2018.
In attempts to prepare for the SAFF Cup 2018, India has named a 34-man squad which will take part in the national camp before leaving for Bangladesh. The main concern is that there are many notable absentees, and veterans are excluded as India has seemingly opted for a young squad.
The 34-man squad named for the national camp ahead of the SAFF Championship 2018:
