- The 1st of the 3 ODI’s takes place tonight at Trent Bridge in Nottingham

- He also spoke about the decision captain Kohli has to make whether to play both Chahal and Kuldeep or go into the match with just one spinner
After winning the T20I series 2-1 to start the 3-month long tour of England, Virat Kohli and his team are all set to continue their impressive run in bilateral series’ starting today with the 1st ODI against Eoin Morgan’s men at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
In latest cricket news live, Sunil Gavaskar, who is part of the commentary team in England has written an article for Times of India, where he has spoken about the recently concluded T20I series and the upcoming ODI and Test battle against England.
50 Over format will give the teams a chance to come back into the match even from a tough situation
Speaking about the upcoming ODI series, Gavaskar said, “Now that the T20 series has been done with and both teams have flexed their muscles and showed a glimpse of what to expect, comes the ODI series. The extra 30 overs makes a big difference for there is time for recovery for both the batting and bowling teams even from tough situations.”
India was on the backfoot for the majority of the 1st innings but Hardik Pandya came up with best T20 figures picking up 4 wickets for 38 runs to drag his team back into the contest. In the end, it was Rohit Sharma’s heroic hundred, his 3rd in T20I’s which propelled them Virat Kohli’s men over the line.
The majority of the Indian squad is entering the ODI series high on confidence but one man who will be a little concerned going into the 50-over format is Shikhar Dhawan, after a disappointing run in the T20I series. However, Sunil Gavaskar believes that the biggest question facing team India prior to the ODI series is whether to go in with both Chahal and Kuldeep or use just one spinner.
Weather could be a key factor in Kohli’s decision regarding the spin duo of Chahal and Kuldeep
In India cricket news today Sunil Gavaskar spoke about the spin duo and how Kohli can utilise them in the ODI series, he said, “India too will be thinking whether to go with both Chahal and Kuldeep or just pick one spinner. Of course, if the weather stays bright and sunny, there’s more chance for the spinners on a dry pitch to get the ball to grip and turn.”
Both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav had a fantastic ODI series in South Africa, picking up over 15 wickets each and that should give Kohli the confidence to at least go in both his leading spinners for the 1st ODI. As we saw in South Africa, it’s extremely hard to pick either of these two spinners even in foreign conditions and even during the T20I series, English batsmen didn’t look too comfortable against them, something that Kohli and Ravi Shastri will keep in mind.
