- Italian daily La Gazetta dello Sport has reported that Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has made personal telephonic contact with Cristiano Ronaldo
- Super agent Jorge Mendes will meet Real Madrid representatives on Tuesday to iron out the differences and finalise the deal
Cristiano Ronaldo‘s prospective move to Juventus got a big shot in the arm after reports emerged that Old Lady boss Massimiliano Allegri has made personal contact with the 33-year-old superstar as he got on the phone with him to know each other more as this will possibly be the first time that both of them will be working together.
Allegri gets on the phone with Cristiano
The conversation between the two took place last Friday, when Allegri landed in Milan after returning early from his summer holidays. “Hi Cristiano, I’m Max” is how the phone call is said to have started as reported by Italian daily La Gazetta dello Sport in their Latest Real Madrid News columns on Monday.
After reporting back to work, Allegri had a brief meeting with Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and the duo discussed Cristiano’s possible arrival and their assault strategy to make the transfer happen. Post this, the 50-year-old tactician was contacted by one of super agent Jorge Mendes’ accomplices. The contact person, who also happens to be a friend of Cristiano, promised Allegri a nice surprise.
La Gazzeta dello Sport’s piece further states that this surprise was nothing but an opportunity to get on the phone with Cristiano. Allegri, who is known to jump at any given opportunity, made the call so as to present himself in the best possible manner and leave the right impression on his prospective illustrious candidate.
Cristiano’s reply was just as friendly and the two did not go much further after exchanging a few pleasantries. The latest public outings of the player’s agent Jorge Mendes have also spurred the hopes of the Old Lady faithful but nobody is taking the move for granted just yet.
Juventus treading their path with caution
Despite the general feeling of euphoria and positive public sentiment in the city of Turin around the whole transfer situation, Juventus are treading their path with due caution. The deal not only requires an unprecedented total outlay of €350 million (€100 million in transfer fees and an yearly salary of €60 million for 4 years) but also puts the Juve bosses in a rather delicate situation of negotiating with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. The construction magnate is proving to be a real stumbling block as he is not too keen on letting his star player leave.
This is the primary reason behind president Agnelli and CEO Beppe Marotta giving ample freedom to Jorge Mendes to carry out the negotiations and make Cristiano’s arrival as smooth as possible.
Meanwhile, there was an unusual air of silence around Santiago Bernabeu on Monday as president Perez and his right-hand man Jose Angel Sanchez returned to work. The head honcho avoided any contact with the press. This could well be the silence before the storm as super agent Mendes is scheduled to sit down for a key meeting with Sanchez on Tuesday and finalise the ‘Great Operation’.
If the deal eventually goes through, it will bring an end to Ronaldo’s illustrious 9-year stay at the club where he has scored 450 goals in 438 appearances and has won an incredible 15 trophies during this time.
