- Belgium star midfielder Marouane Fellaini has impressed his national coach Roberto Martinez after excellent performances at the 2018 World Cup in Russia
- Roberto Martinez spoke about the Manchester United stalwart and said that he was “a winner, a warrior”, and more technical than people know him to be
- Fellaini had proved crucial in Belgium’s 2-1 win against Brazil in the World Cup quarter finals, where he had locked down Neymar throughout the clash
Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who has now become a mainstay at Manchester United, is always looked at as a mystery, an enigma, and is often criticized as well. However, for coaches, like Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, and Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, the 30-year-old is a favorite. Not a single trainer that has got a hold of him wants to let go. José Mourinho recently made every effort to keep Fellaini at Manchester United and succeeded, despite of much criticism. Similarly, at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the midfield maestro is crucial for Belgium coach Roberto Martinez.
Marouane Fellaini is “a winner, a warrior” for Belgium coach Martinez
Fellaini seems to have booked a crucial spot in the Belgium squad for the World Cup semi-final, against France, and Roberto Martinez does not seem ready to give the spot to anyone else, even not Dries Mertens. As reported by the Dutch news outlet, Voetbalkrant, Martinez spoke about Marouane Fellaini, and said,
“Marouane is a winner, a warrior, every action has an interest in him. Fellaini does not understand that there are players who choose their moments, for each stage is the most important one, and with his height it is very difficult for the opponent and he is more technical than most people think.”
Roberto Martinez was seen heated up in Belgium’s quarter-final clash against the Neymar-studded Brazil, and was seen teaching his team the tactics and moves that would go on to beat Brazil at the end of full-time. Explaining how it had become important for Martinez to intervene his players in the Belgium vs Brazil clash from time to time, the 44-year-old Spaniard explained,
“The match was a very important one in terms of coaching and we had to explain the whole tactic in one session and so I had to help during the match.”
“I had to predict what we were going to do if we did not have the ball and conquered it and what we were going to do if we did and would lose the ball, I do not normally do that, I hope I can take it a bit calmer though,” Martinez laughed off the incident which had made the headlines of FIFA World Cup news.
Belgium now have a daunting task ahead of them, to face France on July 10, for the World Cup semi-final. It doesn’t get bigger than this for Belgium, as the ‘Red Devils’ are well on the way to register their first-ever World Cup glory and make FIFA World Cup news.
