Brazil secured their qualification into the round of 16 of FIFA 2018 World Cup following their 2-0 win over Costa Rica. The 5-times World Champions will now take on Mexico in the Pre-Quarterfinals as they look to go all the way after a disastrous exit from the 2014 edition.
Thiago Silva and his Brazilian teammates not looking to take Mexico lightly in the Round of 16
In latest World Cup Football News, Thiago Silva, who is co-captaining the national team in Russia along with Marcelo and Miranda spoke to Le Parisien, spoke ahead of Brazil’s encounter with Mexico. Germany who humiliated the a Thiago Silva less Brazilian team in 2014, have already been knocked out after their 2-0 defeat to Korea earlier this week but had they won, it would have meant a repeat of the 2014 Semi-Final and maybe a chance for Brazil to take revenge for that dark night in Minas Gerais.
Speaking ahead of their encounter with Mexico and about avoiding a possible clash with Germany, Thiago Silva said, “Be careful, because Mexico is a very good team. We must be aware of that. Against Germany, the Mexicans really deserved their victory (1-0) . It will be necessary to make as few mistakes as possible.”
Thiago Silva scored in Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Costa Rica and is hoping after missing out on the semi-final 4 years ago that he can lead his team to glory and possibly a sixth World Cup title.
Thiago Silva labels his comments regarding Neymar as a joke
In his interview with the French paper, Silva also took out time to clear out reports of rift between him and Brazilian superstar Neymar. The 33-year-old has made comment following Brazil’s victory over Costa Rica, which had indicated the former Barcelona star had berated the defender for misplacing a pass during the game.
However, in his interview, Thiago Silva made it clear that his comments were not to be taken seriously and he had said that in the jest. He confirmed that Neymar and him continue to be friends off the field and there is really no bad blood between them.
Silva said, “There are people who talk a lot but I have never had anything against Neymar. It’s a joke (sic) that I made and after the journalists spoke badly. But that has nothing to do with everything that has been said.”
One player, who is expected to be joining Thiago Silva at PSG this summer is Italian goal-keeper Gianluigi Buffon. The veteran shot stopper became a free-agent following the end of his contract with Juventus and is expected to join the French champions after over 15 years in Italy.
Speaking about Buffon’s expected arrival in Paris, Thiago Silva said, “No, I have not spoken with him yet. But what can I tell you about Buffon? He did everything with Italy, he’s an international star. And we will be really happy if it happens, because it can bring us something more.”
