I​ndia’s first ever international football pre-​season tournament, named the Toyota Yaris LaLiga World, will be hosted in Kochi with Indian Super League (ISL) club Kerala Blasters FC, Australian A-League’s club Melbourne City FC, and La Liga club Girona FC facing each other in a three-way tournament. Making rounds in the latest football news, the three teams will play the tournament​ across 5 day​s at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi, starting from 24 July, 2018.

India’s first ever international pre-season football tournament – Toyota Yaris La Liga World – has been introduced to showcase India as a pre-season football destination for clubs from around the world. The tournament will also create a world-class footballing experience in India which will cater to the ever-growing passion for football in the country, which is often termed as the ‘sleeping footballing giant’.

​The main edition of the tournament, which is making waves in Indian football news, will span 3 continents and promises to be an international event of a grand-scale, which will also put Indian football on display for the whole world to witness. One of Indian Super League’s (ISL) biggest​ clubs,​ Kerala Blasters FC, will kick start their pre-season by playing two of the top foreign clubs at home – Melbourne City FC and Girona FC, which will also boost their prospects for the upcoming ISL season.

Kerala Blasters, Girona FC and Melbourne City FC to compete in India’s first pre-season tournament

As reported by the official La Liga website, Kerala Blasters FC CEO, Varun Tripuraneni, spoke about the Toyota Yaris La Liga World tournament, and contributed to the Indian football news, saying, “This will be a perfect start to our pre-season preparations as we play against two international clubs of great repute. It will be a treat for football fans in Kochi and we are expecting the crowd to come out in large numbers and enjoy some high quality football.”

Australian Football Club, Melbourne City, which is managed by former Premier League player Warren Joyce, will enter the tournament after strong performances which saw them finish in the third place of the A-League, i.e. the best finish by the club in their history.

The CEO of Melbourne City FC, Scott Munn, said in the latest football news, “We are delighted to participate in the Toyota Yaris LaLiga World.​​ P​laying against Kerala Blasters, one of​ the​ top teams in India and ​the ​La Liga club, ​Girona FC will be an exciting prospect. I believe that this will be a great preparation for our team Melbourne City FC ahead of our upcoming season.”

The third club in the Toyota Yaris La Liga World will be La Liga’s Girona FC, who will certainly be adding some Spanish flavour to the tournament on their maiden trip to India, and are the favorites to storm the Indian football news. Girona FC were promoted to the Spanish top-flight (La Liga) after they made a strong statement beating La Liga giants Real Madrid last year.

The President of Girona FC, Delfí Geli, said, “It is an honour for our club to participate in this tournament in India. For Girona FC it will be a special experience as it will be the first time our team has played away from Europe since its foundation 88 years ago.We are looking forward to starting the tournament and showing the football that we’ve displayed in LaLiga to the Indian football fans and the world.”

The fixtures of the Toyota Yaris La Liga World tournament will be as follows:

Jul 24 – Kerala Blasters FC vs Melbourne City

Jul 27 – Girona vs Melbourne City

July 28 – Kerala Blasters FC vs Girona
