In latest FIFA World Cup News which is likely to shock fans across the globe, Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah is said to be considering quitting international football and the Egyptian national team after the end of 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The Liverpool forward will feature in his country’s final group game against Saudi Arabia, which will also be Egypt’s last participation in this year’s tournament, on Monday (June 25).
In latest World Cup News, reliable sources have indicated that Salah might choose to move away from national duty post that as he if furious about how being used for political gains and mileage during the tournament in Russia.
Salah’s meeting with Chechnya leader Kadyrov has dragged him into a fresh controversy
The 26-year-old winger, who was instrumental in Egypt qualifying for their first World Cup since 1990, is extremely perturbed and unhappy over what has happened in Chechnya, where the team was based during the World Cup. Salah and a picture of him beside controversial Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov have became a major talking point in every FIFA World Cup News section over the last few days.
To elaborate on this FIFA World Cup 2018 News, Kadyrov, leader of Chechnya since 2004, has been accused of numerous human rights violations as he stifled any form of dissent against him and even subdued the separatist movement that fought the Russian army for nearly two decades.
Post meeting Kadyrov, Salah was handed over an honorary citizenship of the Chechen Republic, which has led to various human rights groups hit out at the Egyptian FA, FIFA and Salah for taking part in the photo op.
“Mohamed Salah is an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic! That’s right! I gave Mohamed Salah a copy of the order and a pin at a celebratory dinner that I gave in honour of the Egyptian team,” Kadyrov wrote in a social media post which sparked the outrage and the Chechen leader was also accused of using Salah as a propaganda stunt for personal gains.
Salah wants nothing to do with politics and non-footballing issues
All this has led to Salah feeling exposed and unhappy as he has been dragged into issues which have nothing to do with the game of football. However, he did recently tweet that there are no problems between him and the national football body and that they are on the same page.

All said and done, Salah’s much coveted World Cup dream has basically turned into a nightmare as he was forced to miss Egypt‘s tournament opener against Uruguay owing to the shoulder injury which he suffered in the Champions League final last month. He did feature against Russia and also scored a penalty but was clearly not fit enough to prevent his country from crashing out of the tournament.
