Update on Man Utd transfers – De Gea yet to receive a contract from Manchester United

One of the biggest Man Utd transfer concerns for the club season after season has been the possibility of David De Gea quitting Old Trafford and joining Real Madrid. Earlier in the month, we read news of De Gea agreeing a new 5-year contract with the Old Trafford outfit.

However, Latest Man Utd Transfer News indicates that De Gea is far from agreeing any new contract with the club. According to Duncan Castles, who is very close to the club De Gea is yet to be offered a new deal by the Old Trafford outfit and we may see that happen when the World Cup is over. However, as for now, De Gea has not agreed any sort of contract with The Red Devils.

Castle said: “We’ve seen a fair bit of reporting this week – some people saying the contract is already agreed, some saying it’s going to be agreed that the player and the club both expect it to be agreed soon,” he told the Transfer Window podcast.

“There was a report in Spain that it’ll be €21m a year, making him the best paid goalkeeper in the world and it would be announced after the World Cup.

“Every time I ask people close to David de Gea I’m told there’s no deal, there is no agreement, in fact there hasn’t been a formal offer from Manchester United at this stage.

“I think Manchester United certainly don’t want to see any suggestion that De Gea might be leaving the club and seem to be briefing that De Gea (will sign a new deal).

“The briefing from De Gea’s side is very different.

“We need to keep a close eye on this one, particularly in a summer where Real Madrid are tearing up their squad and Florentino Perez needs to do something big.”
