The wait is over, the biggest sporting event in the world is upon us, in just a few hours Russia will take on Saudi Arabia in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium in 2018 FIFA World Cup. Over the course of the next one month, a total of 64 matches will be held in 12 venues located in 11 cities spread across the country, with over 700 players competing against each other to become the World Champions.
Google’s doodle to depict the culture and traditions of the 32 participating nation
In latest FIFA World Cup News, tech giants Google released a special doodle celebrating what is probably the most watched sporting event in the world. The doodle released just hours before the opening match of the tournament has been created by Gluekit and depicts fans from various nationalities, cultures and traditions coming together and celebrating the occasion as one.
Over the course of next one month, Google will run a series of 32 doodles, depicting the culture of the participating nation and an interpretation of “What football looks like in my country,” by a guest artist from that country.
“This year’s Doodle series will celebrate the rich cultures and talent of all 32 participating countries by featuring guest artists hailing from each nation,” the search engine mentioned on the website.
Robbie Williams to headline the opening ceremony at the Luzhniki Stadium
Prior to the big kick-off between Russia and Saudi Arabia, a glamorous opening ceremony has been planned which will be headlined by British artist Robbie Williams. He will be joined on the stage by Russian maestro Aida Garifullina. Both of them are expected to light up the stadium and give the tournament the start that it deserves.
According to FIFA World Cup 2018 News, a concert will also be held at Moscow’s Red Square in sync with the Williams performance at the Luzhniki Stadium for those who haven’t been lucky enough to acquire tickets for the opening game.
Speaking about his upcoming performance in Russia, Robbie Williams said,”I’m so happy and excited to be going back to Russia for such a unique performance. I’ve done a lot in my career, and opening the FIFA World Cup to 80,000 football fans in the stadium and many millions all over the world is a boyhood dream,”
The 11 Russia cities that will be hosting the World Cup matches over the next month will be Kaliningrad, Kazan, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Saint Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, Volgograd, Yaroslavl and Yekaterinburg.
