Sterling says NO to new Man City contract
In latest Manchester City transfer news, Sky Sports News understands that Raheem Sterling and Manchester City remain poles apart on the player’s wages and at this stage no fresh negotiations are planned.
The 23-year old winger joins his England team-mates on the plane to Russia on Tuesday, having enjoyed his finest season to date, scoring 23 goals in all competitions for the Premier League champions.
It was hoped that a new deal could be concluded before the World Cup kicked off, keeping Sterling at City through to 2022.
However, latest Man City news tells us that City have met Sterling’s representatives on two separate occasions since the season concluded on May 6, with the parties unable to find common ground over the player’s wages.
Despite playing a key role in City’s title win last season, Sterling was offered half the salary (£175,000-per-week) to what Kevin De Bruyne got in his new 6-year deal (£350k-per-week) by the Cityzens.
Aguero responds to Atletico Madrid links
In latest Man City transfer news, Sergio Aguero has ruled out a move to Atletico Madrid – or anywhere else and remains focused on task in hand of retaining the Premier League title with Manchester City.
In an interview on El Chiringuito de Jugones, Aguero said: “The club is happy, and I am happy in the club. I hope to stay until the end of my contract (in 2020).
“I think every year maybe, a few more rumours this year with Atletico. With Madrid as well, since I left Atletico, it sounds like Madrid, Madrid, Madrid. Well, I’m a City player.
“But it is always good that other teams are interested. What I have to do right now is to be focused on the World Cup, and after that, focused on City.”
Man City thinking of Jorginho’s alternatives
According to latest Manchester City transfer rumour, Man City may be forced to switch their attention to OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri with Napoli refusing to lower their £60million valuation of Jorginho.
Seri, an Ivory Coast midfielder, is available for £36million and Pep Guardiola is now seriously considering the 26-year-old as a cheaper alternative to Jorginho.
After deciding that Brazilian international Fred was too expensive at the £43million being quoted by Shakhtar Donetsk, the Blues moved in for Jorginho with a £50million offer.
That bid was knocked back by Napoli’s tough-talking president Aurelio De Laurentiis. And De Laurentiis then told City not to return unless they were willing to meet his full £60million valuation in full.
Jorginho’s agent still plotting a move to the Etihad
Jorginho’s agent says the Napoli midfielder would be gutted if his Manchester City move is scuppered. The deal to move him to the Etihad has stalled because City are refusing to meet Napoli’s £60million asking price. The Blues do not want to pay more than the £44million they have offered.
His representative Joao Santos claims joining Pep Guardiola’s City would be the “opportunity of a lifetime” for the Italian international.
Santos says Jorginho is not unhappy at Napoli, but would come to regret it if he could not sign for the Premier League champions.
Highlighting the current situation of Jorginho’s transfer to Manchester City, Santos said: “We are talking about a guy for whom Manchester City represents the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Santos.
“He wouldn’t be sad if he stayed in Naples. Indeed, he’s happy and well in Naples.
“He would be unhappy, eventually, though because he would lose a great opportunity like Manchester City.”
