- India can win their test series against England and Australia reckons Ian Chappell
- England’s batting struggles will see them battle to hang on in the England vs India test series
- Losing Steven Smith and David Warner could ruin Australia’s chances against India, thinks Ian Chappell
In the Latest Cricket News, former Australia captain Ian Chappell reckons that India have a glorious chance of sealing an away test series win against both England and Australia later this summer. The enormity of this statement can be understood from the fact that India have never beaten either England or Australia away from home in their glorious test cricket history. Ian Chappell believes at the moment, India have a superior test side than England and Australia where England have failed to produce quality cricketers in recent past, Austraia could be without Steve Smith and David Warner when Indian tours down-under later this year giving Indian a great chance of winning 2 major test series away from their home, starting with India tour of England 2018.
Top-order batting is a major concern for England
It is not a secret to anyone that England do not have a reliable opening batsman which included Alaister Cook as well. Barring his 2 double centuries in recent times, Cook has got out 19 times for a score of less than 20 in his last 29 test innings out of which 10 were single-digit scores. Keaton Jennings, Mark Stoneman, and several players have come and gone but none have either made big scores or hung around long to negate the threat of new ball for their effective middle order batsmen which is a cause of concern for the home side ahead of the England vs India Test Series.
Add to that, Ian Chappell believes that this Indian side has got some quality fast bowlers now who can bowl at decent pace and can also swing the ball fairly well. Despite playing in their backyard, English batsmen will find it hard to score against the Indian pace attack which would make it even tougher for the English bowlers when they are asked to pick 20 Indian wickets in the England vs India Test Series.
England’s bowling lacks variety and quality spin bowler
It seems as if James Anderson and Stuard Broad are the only quality fast bowler going around in England as none of the new bowlers (Mark Wood, Graham Onions, Chris Woakes, Jake Ball etc) have stood up and won the game for their country. Add to that, all the English bowlers seem to be right-handed bowlers which again be a problem for the home side during India tour of England 2018. England vs India Test Series could be won and lost on the fact that England are still not sure of finding a quality spinner in their side while the Indian side has 3-4 options to chose from. Lack of a quality spinner could haunt the English side and give India a very good chance of winning their first ever away test series in England.
