- Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is waiting for a call from Chelsea to become their next manager
- Sarri also wants four Napoli players to join him on his new adventure in London
- The 59-year-old has already been replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in the Napoli hotseat
Leading Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is still waiting for a call from Premier League giants Chelsea with the hope of being appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor at Stamford Bridge. The latest Chelsea news coming in from Italy also suggests that Sarri would like to bring as many as four Napoli players with him if he were to move to London.
In more Chelsea news, Gazzetta’s report also said that Sarri, who is currently on a holiday in San Benedetto del Tronto, is sad over his departure from Napoli. Leaving the club has been particularly tough for the 59-year-old tactician who has ‘lost a piece of his family’ after being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in the Naples hotseat.
Post his Napoli adventure which yielded a memorable title challenge in the season gone by, Sarri is believed to be completely averse to the idea of managing another Serie A side. This despite the fact that he is utterly missing discussing potential targets and taking continuous phone calls in the month of June. Now, there is no team to build and the phone is almost always free.
Sarri waiting for a call from Chelsea
The master tactician, while keeping his overseas options open, is simply waiting for a call from someone influential at Chelsea. The other offer on his table is from club in Russia, which does not excite him. Former Chelsea and Italy player Gianfranco Zola is believed to be a reference point for Sarri and the Blues legend could even return to the club as Sarri’s deputy this summer.
Further, the 59-year-old is also hoping to take with him four Napoli players to London. There is, however, no desire of any revenge against club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. In fact, Sarri did the same thing when he moved from the Empoli to Naples as De Laurentiis bought him Hysaj, Valdifiori, Tonelli followed by Zielinski and Mario Rui later. His backroom staff, though, is expected to be completely different in West London bar one particular trusted assistant.
All said and done, Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea is still a very real possibility this summer. Watch this space for more Chelsea news.
