In recent years, Manchester United Transfer News has dominated the headlines in every transfer window where foreign players have used Man United’s name to get an improved contract at their current club or United end up paying little extra for a player than the other clubs. Manchester United Latest Transfer News indicated that it will be another busy summer of transfers for Jose Mourinho and Man United after The Red Devils have already signed Fred and Diogo Dalot for a combined fee of 65million and are expecting to sign at least 3-4 more players to strengthen their squad and challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season. Mourinho will need to be smart in this transfer window as next season will be the most important campaign of his career where he has to prove to the world that he still is one of the best coached in European football. Man United have certain weak areas which Mourinho will need to address by signing new players in the summer. As ever, Manchester United are linked with a whole host of players across all the playing positions but we take a look at the 5 players Manchester United MUST sign this summer transfer window. These players will be the realistic transfer targets for Manchester United and we will not be falling for Cristiano Ronaldo’s rumours of quitting Real Madrid this summer, Man United fans it’s not happening do not get your hopes high.
1). Toby Alderweireld – Tottenham (Expected transfer fee £50-£70m)
Not long ago, Toby Alderweireld to Manchester United was seen as a done deal but Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy is holding his ground for not letting Alderweirld leave for cheap. He has a £25million release clause this summer but Levy is demanding 70m for the Belgian defender which has put off Man United’s plans of signing him. Man United are prepared to go as high as 50m for Alderweireld and if Spurs do not agree to that offer, they will back off and look for other central defensive options.
2). Clement Lenglet – Sevilla (Expected transfer fee £35-£45m)
One of those back-up defensive options to Alderweireld is Sevilla’s impressive defender Clement Lenglet who received a lot of plaudits for his 2017/18 Champions League season with Sevilla. One of the key reasons for Man United’s interest in Lenglet is player’s 35million release clause which can be activated this summer. On the face of it, United would be getting a very decent central defender for almost half of the investment which is needed on Alderweireld making Lenglet a realistic transfer target for Manchester United this summer. Lenglet is also linked with a move to Barcelona but with Samuel Umtiti signing a new contract, it is to be seen if Barcelona continue their pursuit for the French defender.
3). Alex Sandro – Juventus (Expected transfer fee £40-£60m)
A major area of concern for Jose Mourinho is his left-back area which sees an aging Ashley Young and out-of-favor Luke Shaw operate in that role. Alex Sandro has constantly been linked in Manchester United Transfer News with Juventus left back expected to sign for the Old Trafford outfit for an expected transfer fee of 40m to 60m. Sandro also has a contract offer from Juventus which has been worrying Man United’s hopes of signing Sandro this summer. The Brazilian isn’t going to the 2018 FIFA World Cup so expect this particular Manchester United News to flare up even during the World Cup.
4). Gareth Bale – Real Madrid (Expected transfer fee £80-£100m)
We did mention the word realistic transfer targets for Manchester United this summer and we do believe that a sizeable offer from Manchester United will force Real Madrid to sell the Welshman who openly shouted his discontent for the role he has been offered in last 12 months at the club. The only concern for United is that Zinedine Zidane has left the club and the new manager coming in will hope to keep Bale at the team but with Neymar being linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu, we could see Bale being the one sacrificed to accommodate Neymar instead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
5). Mario Mandzukic – Juventus (Expected transfer fee £20-£30m)
Jose Mourinho has cited the importance of signing a backup striker to Romelu Lukaku as Mourinho does not see Marcus Rashford fulfill that role as he has turned more of a winger in last 12 months. As per the Manchester United transfer news latest, Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic has asked the club to let him leave as he is looking to explore new challenges and what better way to make his Premier League debut with Manchester United. Madzukic is good in the air and can even operate from the left-flank. With Marouane Fellaini certain to leave the club this summer, Mandzukic could be United’s Plan B to send bodies in the box and play long balls.
