- The love-hate relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Florentino Perez finally seems to have come to and end
- Latest Real Madrid news coming in reveals that the Portuguese superstar is looking increasingly likely to leave Real Madrid this summer
After several summers of hide and seek, Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo finally seem to be on the path of separation as has been revealed by Spanish daily Marca in their latest edition. The big Real Madrid Transfer News coming out of club sources states that the Portuguese superstar had a meeting with club supremo Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sanchez and super agent Jorge Mendes to review his current contract, the result of which wasn’t particularly fruitful.
A year ago, the newspaper, in Real Madrid Transfer News, had also mentioned after the club’s 2016/17 Champions League win in Cardiff that Perez had offered his star man a new deal worth 30 million euros net per year in lieu of his great performances throughout the season. Back then, Ronaldo earned 21 million euros a year, a sum which is significantly lower than Neymar’s 37 million salary at PSG and Lionel Messi‘s 50 million paycheck at Barcelona.
It has further been revealed in Real Madrid news that keeping the above figures in mind, by September last year Ronaldo had made up his mind to move away from the club at the the end of 2017/18 season, which is now looking likelier than ever. Owing to his great goal-scoring run on the continental stage and game-changing outings against PSG and Juventus, the club also offered him a revised deal worth 25 million euros plus significant bonuses but it is believed that Ronaldo’s pride was hurt by the numbers on offer and Real’s public approach of chasing Neymar.
What happened in Tuesday’s meeting?
The above-mentioned meeting which took place on Tuesday again left a sour taste in Ronaldo’s mouth as he offered a salary in the range of 25 million euros per year, which could rise up to 30 million if Real Madrid and the player achieve yet another great season. This is to say that if the club were to win titles like La Liga and Champions League and Ronaldo was to be named the Ballon d’Or winner at the end of 2018/19 campaign.
In addition to his salary, Ronaldo’s comments about leaving the club after last month’s Champions League in Kiev were also discussed at the meeting.
Ronaldo has taken Tuesday’s proposal as a direct invitation to leave the club this summer as after being decisive in Real’s four Champions League wins in the last five years, during which time he has also won 4 Ballon d’Or awards, it is difficult for him to digest the big difference in pay when his salary is compared to his great rival Messi and possibly his successor at Santiago Bernabeu, Neymar.
Perez green-lights Ronaldo’s departure
For these reasons, Ronaldo has now asked the club to let him move on this summer and for the first time in nine years, club president Florentino Perez has also obliged to his request by signalling a “yes” from his side. Therefore, despite a contract which runs until 2021 and has a release clause of 1000 million euros, Ronaldo could be on his way out of the Spanish capital post the World Cup.
The next few days will tell us if this complicated relationship between Ronaldo and Perez will continue with a handshake and forced smiles or if the time has come for the 33-year-old superstar to finally say his goodbyes and move away from the club.
