- Nabil Fekir’s arrival could spell the end for Mo Salah’s Liverpool career
- Securing Fekir could be a strategic move by Klopp to cover for Salah’s departure
Spanish daily AS have made a startling revelation that Nabil Fekir’s impending arrival at Liverpool could spell the end of Mohamed Salah’s Reds career, with elite European clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona pursuing the Egyptian superstar.
It was, on Thursday, revealed by French newspaper L’Equipe that Liverpool had agreed a deal worth 65 million euros plus 7 million in add-ons for Olympique Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir, with the transfer set to be announced as early as on Friday (June 8). AS further suggested that the Anfield club’s signing of the 24-year-old attacking midfielder could possibly be key to the summer transfer market and several other potential arrivals and departures.
Is Nabil Fekir’s arrival a cover for Mo Salah’s departure this summer?
Fekir is scheduled to undergo a medical with the club’s doctors on Friday and sign on the dotted line before the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia. Elaborating on this Liverpool News, it has been suggested in Spanish media circles that the Frenchman’s arrival could well turn out to be a strategic signing by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as he might be preparing the club to cover for Salah’s possible departure after the showpiece event in Russia.
Mohamed Salah, who was in red hot goal-scoring form during his debut season at Anfield, scored a mind-boggling 44 goals in all competitions. In the process, he also broke the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season by netting 32 times domestically.
Since then, the Egyptian who is currently undergoing rehabilitation for an injury suffered in the recent Champions League final, has been linked with moves to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Camp Nou based club are even said to have made contact with the player’s representatives but any such suggestions were shot down by his agent Ramy Abbas Issa.
