- In latest Liverpool News, the Reds are close to completing a deal for Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir
- Fekir has long been on Jurgen Klopp’s wish-list and is touted as an ideal Philippe Coutinho replacement at Anfield
Leading French newspaper L’Equipe has confirmed that Premier League giants Liverpool are all set to conclude a deal for Olympique Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir in the next 24 hours, with a strong possibility of transfer being announced as early as Friday (June 8). It has been reported in latest Liverpool Transfer News circles that the Reds have reached an agreement worth €65M plus €7M in add-ons and bonuses for the 24-year-old Frenchman.
Nabil Fekir to Liverpool move facilitated by former coach Gerard Houllier
Fekir, who scored 24 goals and laid down a further 9 assists in Ligue 1 last season, will add to Liverpool’s already fearsome attacking depth which includes the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. He will also improve the squad depth of Jurgen Klopp’s side, which was significantly exposed in their Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid last month.
Former Liverpool and Lyon manager Gerard Houllier is also believed to have played a big role in the transfer as he occupies the position of an “external advisor” to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas. Post the discussions, the 24-year-old is said to have committed for 5 years and pocket nearly 700,000 euros as his monthly salary at Liverpool.
Elaborating on this Liverpool News, the club is said to have sent down a medical team to France to carry out a medical for Fekir at the French national team camp on Friday ahead of their final warm-up fixture against the United States on Saturday. The hastened nature of things suggests that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards (Liverpool’s Sporting Director) want the deal wrapped up before Fekir heads to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Nabil Fekir to Liverpool news, though, certainly caught fans and transfer watchers by surprise as it came merely a few hours after Lyon president Aulas had given out public statements about Liverpool Fekir deal was nowhere close to completion, claiming the two sides hadn’t even begun to discuss valuation yet.
Fekir the ideal man to replace Coutinho?
With the Nabil Fekir to Liverpool transfer now imminent, it is looking increasingly likely that the French attacker will be handed over the prestigious No.10 shirt, which has been lying vacant ever since Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona last winter.
Also, in more Liverpool news, the club’s sources have indicated that Fekir won’t be the last name coming in at Anfield this summer. Xherdan Shaqiri is soon expected to join Naby Keita, Fabinho and Fekir in the list of arrivals. Klopp, meanwhile, is also looking to bolster the goalkeeping position with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and AS Roma shot stopper Alisson Becker touted as possible replacements for the error-prone duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.
