Former Australia cricketer and pace legend Glenn McGrath has had a closer connection to India ever since he retired from cricket in 2007, as he has been a regular visitor of the country being the director of the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai since 2012. Back in the city for another of his coaching stint, the 48-year-old spoke about the upcoming India tour of England 2018, which will feature a Test series against England as well, and how Indian pace heads Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah will hold the key for India vs England series win. He also spoke about the prospects of Team India captain Virat Kohli, among other things, which make for the latest cricket news. Let’s have a look.

The India tour of England 2018 will begin with a three-match T20I series, beginning from July 3, 2018, followed by a three-match ODI series, with the five-match Test series taking place in the final phase of the India vs England series. Speaking about whether India will be able to perform in the longer format in England, Glenn McGrath said, as reported by Cricbuzz,

“A lot of it depends on the preparation time they (Team India) have leading up to the Tests. You have got to adapt a lot quicker these days. Well, most guys have played in England before. Experience plays a big part in being able to adjust and adapt quicker. They have to rely on experience to take them through in England.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah will hold key to win India vs England series, says McGrath

Speaking about how Indian pace unit’s leaders Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Glenn McGrath tipped them to shine the brightest in the India tour of England 2018 (India vs England series), and said,

“I think Bhuvi and Bumrah will hold the key. Both of them have got pretty good control. That’s what you need in England. The Duke ball has got a pronounced seam. If you get the ball in the right areas consistently, it will do a little bit throughout and they will do well.”

Jasprit Bumrah has a unique action, and bowls challenging lengths

It was Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent bowling, specially in the death overs, that had made him shine in India’s recent series against South Africa. Speaking about expecting something similar from the 24-year-old, who has the record for taking most T20I wickets in a calendar year, Glenn McGrath said that Bumrah’s performance in India tour of England 2018 could end up landing his name in the latest cricket news and India cricket news. He said,

“I expect Bumrah to do well in England too simply because of the way he bowls. He has got a unique action, but he bowls lengths that are challenging for the batsmen. He will enjoy bowling with the Duke ball. I actually think all the Indian pacers will have success in England. It’s just a question of the batsmen getting enough runs.”

Virat Kohli vs James Anderson will be the highlight of India tour of England 2018

The most defining moment of the India tour of England 2018 (India vs England series) is certainly going to be the matchup between Team India captain Virat Kohli and England captain James Anderson. However, Kohli had struggled the last time around in India vs England series, averaging a dismal 13.40 in five Tests. Speaking about the phenomena, McGrath said that although England conditions have always been one of the toughest, India skipper is one of the most experienced, and has the capabilities to push India beyond the finish line and make for some celebrated Indian cricket news, with the only impediment being James Anderson’s lethal bowling. The former Australian cricketer said,

“Obviously, Kohli is a more experienced player this time around. There’s no doubt that he’s a quality batsman, but English conditions are pretty tough. When you have got a bowler like James Anderson who knows the conditions so well, it’s going to be a lot of hard work for Kohli. He has to be prepared to work hard. He can’t just go out and play his game and hit through the line. He has to be able to adapt. I’m looking forward to the battle.”
