TNPL Draft 2018 got over on Thursday with 128 players going under the hammer as TNPL 2018 teams begin to chalk out their best possible squad for the next season of TNPL. TNPL Draft 2018 saw a lot of current Indian international players, as well as some of the best domestic players, go under the hammer as TNPL draft 2018 was completed on May 31. Likes of Dinesh Karthik and Murali Vijay were part of the auction after not being retained by their last year’s franchise. With the new TNPL season on the horizon, we take a look at the 5 best picks in TNPL draft 2018.

Washington Sundar (Tuti Patriots)

Despite coming off a disappointing IPL 2018 campaign, there was no shortage of interest in Washington Sundar at the TNPL Draft 2018 as Sundar was sold among the premium player category at the TNPL Draft 2018. All the TNPL 2018 Teams were keen to build a strong side for the upcoming season of TNPL and one of the most sought-after players at the TNPL draft 2018 was Washington Sundar who attracted bids from several teams but it was Tuti Patriots who ended up signing the Indian international star. Washington enjoyed a breakthrough season with Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2017 and had a very successful TNPL 2017 as well. After being one of the best picks of TNPL Draft 2018, Washington Sundar will be eager to once again perform at his best and prove himself as one of the best TNPL 2018 Players.

Vijay Shankar (Chepauk Super Gillies)

Among all the TNPL Players who have played for India in recent times, Vijay Sankar has received the biggest criticism for not doing justice to his opportunity, however, an impressive IPL 2018 campaign with Delhi Daredevils means that Vijay Shankar was one of the most in-demand TNPL 2018 Players and it was the Chepauk Super Gillies who ended up signing the all-rounder. Chepauk Super Gillies would hope that Vijay Shankar will play an all-rounder’s role at this year’s TNPL after signing him at the TNPL draft 2018. Shankar scored 213 runs at the IPL 2018 at a strike rate of 143 which must be a good sign for Chepauk Super Gillies ahead of the TNPL 2018.

Abhinav Mukund (Lyca Kovai Kings)

Abhinav Mukund will have a lot to prove at the TNPL 2018 after scoring just 22 runs in 3 innings of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2017 and he will play for the Lyca Kovai Kings in TNPL 2018. Abhinav Mukund has an impressive first-class career where he has scored over 8500 runs at an average of 47.36 including a triple century. However, when it comes to the T20 format, Mukund’s low strike rate often becomes his biggest hindrance and Lyca Kovai Kings will hope that Abhinav Mukund is one of the standout TNPL 2018 Players who takes TNPL 2018 by storm.

Murai Vijay (Trichy Warriors)

Murali Vijay’s confidence must be sky high at the moment after he was part of the IPL 2018 winning side with Chennai Super Kings and although he did not play enough cricket for them but given the lack of good fortune Murai Vijay had to suffer in last 12-18 months, IPL winning medal must given him renewed confidence and chance to once again prove himself to be a more than capable player in TNPL 2018. Trichy Warriors ended up signing Vijay for the next season of TNPL and with Vijay out of the contention of playing for India against England, he will be available to play the entire season of TNPL 2018.

Dinesh Karthik (IDream Karaikudi Kaalai)

If any Indian cricketer has seen his stock rise the highest in last 6-8 months it definitely has to be Dinesh Karthik after his sensational innings in the Nidahas Trophy final against Sri Lanka. After scoring 22 runs in just 6 balls, Dinesh Karthik went on to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL 2018 semi-finals and scored 498 runs and was the leading run scorer for Kolkata Knight Riders. Karthik has gained a reputation for being a finisher in recent months which will be handy for his new team IDream Karaikudi Kaalai after they signed Karthik at the TNPL draft 2018. One major reason why Karthik was not retained is that he could very well be part of India’s touring team to England which would mean that he could miss the business end of TNPL 2018 and teams were not too keen keeping him for the next season. However, Karthik’s presence in the IDream Karaikudi Kaalai side will put them in good shape for the entire season even if he does not stay back to play the entire tournament.
