Eden Gardens is a one of the most celebrated cricketing centres in India and also ranks among the historical venues of the country like the Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai and Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium of New Delhi. In fact, the first venue to host a day/night Test match in India was the Eden Gardens (now the IPL 2018 best stadium), which had witnessed the match take place between two clubs of Bengal in the month of June in 2016.
Sourav Ganguly, who has his name written in the golden book of Indian cricket history, was appointed as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal in 2015. He has earlier served as the Joint Secretary of the state association before taking over the body as it’s President. As a much-celebrated captain and player of the Indian cricket captain, his international career lasted for more than 16 years.
The left-handed batsman had made his international debut in an ODI against West Indies in 1992 at Brisbane, while his Test debut had come in 1996 at Lord’s against England. He retired from Test cricket against Australia in 2008 in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, the team based out of Eden Gardens, lost the second qualifier and failed to qualify for the final of the IPL. Kane Williamson-led SRH defended a total of 174 successfully to make it to the final, where they will face the Chennai Super Kings. The final will be played on Sunday (May 27) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
