Rashid Khan had been impressing the world cricket with his spin-bowling prowess, making his national cricket team, Afghanistan, a prominent marker on world map, and now he has taken over the Indian Premier League completely, having defeated Kolkata Knight Riders and taking Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL 2018 final with Chennai Super Kings. Not only Rashid Khan bested KKR batsmen on May 25 at the Eden Gardens, he bested their bowlers as well with the bat, and that is what floored the ‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar. The former batting maestro came out on Twitter in adulation of the Afghanistan spinner, and said that the 19-year-old was now the “best spinner in the world in this format”.

Sachin Tendulkar declares Rashid Khan the best spinner in the world in T20 format

After Sunrisers Hyderabad won the Qualifier 2 against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, i.e., Eden Gardens on Friday, to face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2018 final, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his appraisal for the young Afghanistan mystery-spinner, and wrote, “Always felt Rashid Khan was a good spinner but now I wouldn’t hesitate in saying he is the best spinner in the world in this format.”

Rashid Khan had taken three crucial wickets (Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell) in a spell of 4 overs, giving away only 19 runs. However, that was not all, as Tendulkar was also impressed by the spinner’s batting skills, which came on to the fore in the SRH vs KKR Qualifier 2. When SRH batsmen were dismissed on low scores, which included Kane Williamson getting out on 2 runs, SRH were thrown in a bind. Coming in to bat at No.7, Rashid Khan’s knock not only anchored SRH’s score line, but he also registered the 2nd highest runs in his team, and the highest batting strike rate, as well.

Rashid Khan outscored all the top-batsmen of the Sunrisers Hyderabad side, as he scored a 10-ball 34-run fiery knock, which included four boundaries and two sixes. Team opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 34 runs too, but off 24 deliveries, while Wriddhiman Saha scored a 27-ball 35. In doing so, Rashid Khan registered a batting strike rate of 340.

And that is why Tendulkar was all adulation for Rashid Khan, as he added, “Mind you, he’s (Rashid Khan) got some batting skills as well. Great guy.”

Rashid’s knock helped SRH to put up a challenging score of 174/7 in 20 overs. And coming even more handy in restricting Kolkata Knight Riders’ batting, which had gotten off an explosive start with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine taking turns to bash SRH bowlers in a bid to win the all-important match.

However, it was the Afghanistan mystery spinner who reigned supreme, as he was to be seen behind most of the action that took place on Friday night, dismissing gargantuan Chris Lynn, KKR veteran Robin Uthappa, and explosive batsman Andre Russell, while also helping in two other dismissals – Nitish Rana run-out, taking Shubman Gill‘s and Shivam Mavi’s catch off Carlos Brathwaite’s delivery.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will now take on Chennai Super Kings on Sunday for the IPL 2018 final at the Wankhede Stadium, at 7 PM IST.
